The Dream

I had a strange dream the other night. I dreamed I went back to the grade school I attended 45 years ago. I was the same age as I am now and the school looked just as I remembered it. There were no kids in there as I walked down the hall but It still smelled the same, the smell of cleaning fluids that the janitor always cleaned the floors with. There was that familiar echo of my shoes hitting the floor as I walked. The drinking fountains against the walls were only knee-high, I know we weren't that small back then but my dream felt the need to exaggerate. I was headed toward my 3rd grade teacher's class, who was probably my favorite teacher. I was surprised to see her name on the door, I wasn't sure if she'd still be teaching after all these years. The door was closed so I peeked thru the little window near the top. The room was all white and there were no desks in there. I suddenly saw her sitting on a bed wearing a straitjacket and two men wearing white clothes were spoon-feeding her baby food which was drooling out of her mouth. I realized it was no longer a school but an insane asylum. I didn't want to be there anymore, I was depressed so I went out the rear door of the building. I noticed that the playground was still there just as I remembered and figured they kept all that for the mental patients to play on. Then my dream yanked me away and I was going 70 miles an hour down the highway in a shopping cart. Before I could figure out how to steer the cart, I woke up.
