Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

And There Are Other Body Parts Needing Correcting

Posted 04-08-2016 at 08:52 PM by case44

We go from me trying to lose a little weight to fixing two problems. One just got fixed (for now) and the other is in the process of healing.

First off, I got a new prescription of lenses for my glasses. My eyesight with my current pair was as messed up as messed up can be. This time around, I took it upon myself to see someone totally different. In the meantime, I resorted to wearing a backup pair of glasses (my previous pair before the purchase of my latest pair two years ago). Let's face it, everyone: I'm through with Pearle Vision Centers. Do not go there. Ever. I decided, moving forward, to go local, and I'm glad I did. It was Frisco Family Vision in Frisco, Texas, and a wonderful specialist named Dana Biederman graciously helped me get the right lenses to suit my needs. She was assisted by an equally delightful lady named Heather. Both were very helpful in getting me my new lenses to fit right in a set of frames which I bought at Pearle two years ago. And the price was better than I would have ever expected. Since I'm a stickler for supporting local businesses, I highly recommend Frisco Family Vision. Tell 'em The Case sent you!

And the other malady I had? None other than an unexpected battle between a meat cutter and my left index finger............and the meat cutter won. Truth is, I was chopping up some lettuce for a salad I was making to take to a recent group event. Well, I turned away for a brief second but was still cutting away at the lettuce. Bad move, Case. I proceeded to slice partially through the finger and part of the nail plate. Had to briefly wear a bandage, but I had taken the necessary precautions, along with soap and warm water, to care for it, and things are gradually getting better. The nail plate cut is still visible, even after trying to file it away to smooth it out (failed bit). The nail plate cut is gradually moving toward the nail edge and is no longer in line with the erstwhile cut in the finger's skin, since healed, with the nail plate graduating to the top, but that's nail plates for you. Best of all is, there hasn't been any real pain in recent weeks. Once the cut makes its way off the top and I trim the nail, it'd one day be like nothing ever happened.

So, I've got three body parts getting improvement in the grand scheme of things. Two eyes and one index finger. Functioning right. And all, as they say, is right with the world again.

Finger is improving, but it's slowly taking a couple of months for the nail plate to graduate to a point where I can cut any trace of the finger fubar completely away. I expect the next few weeks to see things completely better with that.
