Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Cousin Brucie Is A Hump Day Tradition

Posted 03-25-2016 at 08:56 AM by case44

He may be 80 years young, but he still chugs along as if he were 30 all over again. You hear him on SiriusXM's '60s on 6 each Wednesday and Saturday. And every time we get to Wednesday, the world-wide Hump Day on the way to the weekend, one's ears can be treated to the talents of one Bruce Morrow. You know him as your Cousin Brucie.

Yes, he's our Cousin Brucie. The Cuz. Can you believe that rascal has been in radio for almost six decades? Hard to believe, but it sure has been that long since the Brooklynite broke into the radio biz in, of all places, Bermuda. Brucie worked there, and then to his New York City home, then on to Miami for a couple of years before going back to NYC, where he's been ever since, doing what he loves best. Nowadays, he's at the 6 doing two original shows a week. On Hump Day, he does his "Cruisin'..." show for the listeners, including the ears belonging to your writer. Brucie is part of my Hump Day tradition for as much time as I can afford listening. The guy is a legend, and he just makes things happen for so many. Your Cuz was the first American disk jockey to interview The Beatles on the radio. There's even a picture of him interviewing the Fab Four, so if you get a chance, then just Google-search for it. It's there, and it's classic.

You really do appreciate the efforts of those who have lived the music you and I listen to, and those legends won't be around forever. Cousin Brucie, the pioneer that he's been, is still around doing what he does. Savor every moment, folks, not just with Bruce, but other jocks who have been in the business and have paid their dues. Remember, we've just lost Charlie Tuna, longtime Los Angeles and syndicated jock. We lost Casey Kasem two years ago. Embrace our still-alive legends while you can. The experiences are worth a listen.

Two Hump Day traditions for me: Taking cookies to work, and then Cousin Brucie on my radio after work.
