Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / Trump's Charge For The Presidency

We've got to gather together again. Why? Because there is Scattershooting going on at your neighborhood blog site. I'm back again with the events of the day and the thoughts of this writer as things continue to happen. So, the following must also happen.

********

This American presidential race is getting more interesting all the time, and it certainly has not been boring, to say the least. Years ago, one would never have imagined Donald Trump would dare enter a race for the White House. Fast forward to today, and that's where we are now. In the midst of primary season, Trump is ahead of everybody on the Republican side and might actually be on his way to winning the national election. Why is Trump involved in this? Because Americans are sick of tired of dishonesty in government. They're sick and tired of politicians not fulfilling promises. They're sick and tired of the so-called establishment. They're sick and tired of a sitting president who continues to display hate by skipping funerals, allegedly because the recently-departed were people whose political leanings he just didn't agree with. Americans are also sick and tired of a left-wing party who has become far more extreme than they were when a fellow named Jack Kennedy held office. They're sick and tired of that same left-wing party who harbors terrorists, undermines our allies, and refuses to protect the country in which we Americans live.

People are sending a message at the voting precincts, and it's loud and clear. When all the dust settles and Hillary Rotten Clinton gets indicted following her e-mail scandal, you'll see Donald Trump likely to be heading to a new mansion. And it's not called Trump Tower.

Did Houston Texans fans see this coming a month ago? Doesn't matter now, but this is very pleasant. Once upon a time, it appeared that Brock Osweiler would replace Peyton Manning as the Denver Broncos' new quarterback.

Not anymore.

Hello, Houston. Osweiler has landed. The Texans got the steal of the offseason in two ways, with two very important free-agent signings. Not only did they sign Osweiler, but they also signed running back Lamar Miller, late with the Miami Dolphins. These moves have changed the Texans' NFL Draft strategy in a big way. Suddenly, a listless offense just got an incredible boost. These two players could lead the Texans to a division title in the AFC South this fall.

This week, we are remembering a man who basically was the reason for The Beatles to even exist at all. George Martin just passed away in his sleep at age 90 in Wiltshire, England. He was the guy who once was absent from a very important audition session involving the Fab Four, but who would also later give them another chance when the initial session did not please the recording engineers. He would be known, in many respects, as the fifth Beatle, as he arranged and produced a number of songs which included some innovative orchestrations, sometimes at the behest of Beatles members. You know the rest of the story.

George Martin will, no doubt, be missed. The impact on the success of the greatest rock band ever known is palpably felt and its imprint lasting.

Fellow Americans, this weekend is Time Change Weekend. We will be springing forward into Daylight Savings Time over most of the U.S. Make sure you set your clocks ahead one hour on Saturday night.

Huffines Communities is mum about their latest project, and I don't know why. It's a fourth expansion of Hebron 121 Station, an exciting, tropically-landscaped, resort-style apartment complex in Lewisville, Texas. They're piecing together the property in phases. Right now, they're in Phase 3, but just to the north, dirt is being turned again for yet another phase. Strangely enough, that was the thing that hasn't been announced. I'm sure we'll hear something soon.

Texas has had a nice series of rain showers in this past week. Hopefully, any talk of fire dangers in some parts of the state will be quelled, if for just a brief time. But this can only bode well for a lush, green spring. It can also bode well for lake levels that previously were less than normal, though most have actually been above since last year.

I've gotten no new reports on Interstate 69 in Texas lately, but several projects are either in progress or about to get underway. I'll pass new info on to you if I hear or see anything.

If you've driven around Downtown Dallas, then you've likely seen a progression of new mid-rises flooding the Uptown area and leading up to downtown. It's absolutely incredible --- and stunning --- to see all the new development taking place and heavily concentrated there. And the lights along Woodall Rodgers Freeway near Klyde Warren Park really do light up the night sky, you'd swear you were in Vegas or something.

Baseballers are in full swing once again as both the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues are getting going. The regular season is fast approaching. Pretty soon, I will be bringing you my predictions for the major leaguers as another season of intrigue will ensue shortly. Get your popcorn and nachos ready!

Venturing down to Austin? RodeoAustin is at hand now at the Travis County Expo Center (Grouplove, The Mavericks, Gary Allan, Andy Grammer, and Tanya Tucker are slated to perform in the next week). South By Southwest (SXSW) is just underway. And the Texas Longhorns baseball team may be off to a slow start, but any trip to Disch-Falk Field is worth taking in.

Here's the naked truth. Well, sort of. Bette Midler is just returning the favor for Kim Kardashian, and it's all for a good cause.

Let me take a moment to wish all of you a Happy Easter. Enjoy your spring, as well. Good golf, good baseball, good water-skiing, or whatever makes you happy. You have a good day.........right now!

And there you are.

Just read a post in Sports by a Bronco fan who didn't think the Texans were wise to sign Osweiler. I beg to differ. Osweiler did very well for Denver in the short time he filled in for Manning. He'll do great in the Texans' new offense this coming year. Denver will wish they'd been able to sign him.

Now, even though I still believe that Ted Cruz is the better of the two Republican candidates and deserves an opportunity to turn America around, if Trump gets the nomination, then he'll get my vote come November. This nation cannot afford another Democrat in the White House.

Remember, too, that there are Senate seats at stake, as well. Despite the Republicans poor effort in standing up to Darth Barry, it is incumbent for us to keep Republicans holding that chamber. I pray that some real conservatives will win some seats.

Just got word that Tanya Tucker is hospitalized due to bronchitis. She had to cancel a concert appearance at the Florida Strawberry Festival. Hopefully, she'll return to full health in time for her appearance at Rodeo Austin, scheduled for March 20.

Oh, if you're wondering, Tanya was replaced by John Anderson at the Florida festival.

Hey Case, I remember you mentioning the Ports-to-Plains corridor a while back. You mentioned the I-69 construction in this post, so it's somewhat related. If you scroll down to the fifth graphic entitled "NHS truck traffic 1998" below, it'll give an idea of truckers' favorite routes in Texas. I'm sure it hasn't changed much since then, other than rapidly increase:

    http://www.ctre.iastate.edu/pubs/truck_idling/fleig.pdf

I noticed that it looked as though US 83 from Junction to Eden had nearly as much truck traffic as I-35 from Laredo to San Antonio. Would guess that it's increased a lot since. To me it confirms that something should be done around there, just as things are being done elsewhere in the state.

It's hard to believe all of the violence that liberal protesters are bringing to the Trump rallies, but, sadly, it's no surprise. This might be worse than the riots of '68. I don't see conservatives crashing Clinton and Sanders rallies.

Have we just lost our minds?
