Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Texas Weather: Wait A Few Minutes, And It'll Change

Posted 03-09-2016 at 05:54 PM by case44

There is not a better place for me to live than right here in the great state of Texas. And one of the best things about this is the phenomenon consisting of all of the weather changes that constantly happen here. If you are from my part of the country, then you know what I'm talking about. Sunshine one minute, rain the next, tornado the next minute, and the next, sunshine, and then....

Considering that I write about what's on my mind, you're probably in your easy chair wondering this: "Well, Case, after all, you've only written over 700 posts on that blog page. Don't you ever write about...."

Where have you been these last seven and a half years??

I'm not losing my mind, folks. I'm actually having a blast. What kind of a winter was it in North Texas these last three months? Um, here's my answer: None. We have not had one single day where Dallas got below 30 degrees, and that's the first time I've seen that in the time that I've lived here. The only snow I've seen was mixed with some cold rain sometime back in December, I believe, and the temperature was still well above 30 at that time. Wait a few minutes, they say, and things will change. But no winter this time. No ice. No snow. None of that.

Such is life when you deal with Texas weather.

Kill the bugs? Mother Nature said " No " this time. While the East Coast got hit hard with a killer snowstorm last month, who had 60-to-70 degree highs? Dallas and the rest of Texas. While others were digging out of their driveways, Ol' Case was skipping and jumping in mine. Heck, I'd have probably done some pushups right there and then, but you can keep the drill sergeant away.

We definitely will --- and do --- have an early spring at our hands now, and the first official day of spring does not occur for another ten days as of this writing. Life is good, but it's the kind of thing I've waited for since December,................when it was 75 on Christmas!

Example of how things can change quickly? A few nights ago, I saw brief rains sweep through my part of the area. The winds were fierce, and there was marble-sized hail. A few golf balls even fell amongst all that. Even a few rumbles of thunder. Prior to that, we had one whale of a lightning show. The storm passed through in twenty minutes, and then, all was quiet again.

A strong El Niño will do that, I guess. It got to 30 in SA, too. Off! sales could be off the charts in a few months in TX.
