Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Country Music Mourns Over The Passing Of The Southern Gentleman
Posted 02-24-2016 at 06:47 PM by case44
This truly has been a year of notable music industry passings, and we're not even yet two months into same. Look at the list of notables whom we've lost since January, from Natalie Cole to David Bowie to Glenn Frey to Kitty Kallen to Red Simpson.
And as of Monday? Sonny James.
The man known as The Southern Gentleman passed away Monday at age 87. Hard to believe. Sonny James. Gone. I'm still trying to get this to sink in. The cause of death is yet to be known. If you've listened to country music, particularly in the era of the 1960s through the 1980s, then you've no doubt heard this legendary artist a time or two. From "Young Love" and "Don't Keep Me Hangin' On" to "Since I Met You Baby" and "That's Why I Love You Like I Do", his impeccable song stylings and guitar prowess made him a country legend. He'd also been a member of The Grand Ole Opry and even hosted the very first CMA Awards show on television. What's most impressive about Sonny is that, among his twenty-six number one hits in a 25-year span were sixteen consecutive number ones. Those occurred from 1967 to 1971, the most ever by a solo artist in any musical genre. He has not been surpassed yet.
Sonny James. The man. The music. He's gone, but not forgotten. His music will truly live on.

Former Austin deejay Tom Allen, for many years, had kept in touch with Sonny James after the latter retired from singing and touring. Sonny and his wife, Doris, would send Tom a Christmas card each year. Good memories from Austin radio.
