Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Big Event Scheduled For The Frisco's Star

Posted 02-07-2016 at 08:46 AM by case44

And, no, it's not the Super Bowl. Not big enough for that. You can call the Dallas Cowboys' new practice facility Jerry World, Jr. That will be the site of something bigger than anything Frisco, Texas, had ever seen.

With all of Frisco's eight oldest open high schools competing in District 13-5A this coming fall, they will begin the season with something out of the ordinary. For one Saturday during Zero Week (likely in August, as the official date has yet to be determined), all of those schools will be play another Frisco school in what will actually be a very early district opener. They're all gathering in a quadruple-header in one day. That's right; all of them will come together for a total of four football games scheduled for that day to commemorate the opening of the new Ford Stadium at The Star (formerly The Star in Frisco). So far, all I know is that the Independence Knights will open their season against the new Reedy Lions. I have not heard any of the other schedule releases as yet.

Get one ticket for all day and get your popcorn ready. It's an all-day affair at Jerry World, Jr, with all eight of Frisco's oldest schools (with number nine being Lebanon Trail, unable to participate with just a freshman class the first year) duking it out in the opener. This promises to be a very memorable event for a lot of football and marching band fans.

Kind of unrelated but along the same lines: Lebanon Trail just hired their first head football coach. It's Sadd Jackson, who once played at TCU, so he's really no stranger to many Metroplex football fans.

Kind of funny how this works out. LT fans will try to be happy with a coach named Sadd. This will take getting used to.

In looking at this odd scheduling scenario for Frisco ISD, one has to wonder if AD David Kuykendall did the right thing. This means that everybody plays their district openers in game 1 rather than having 3 weeks to prepare for district play. This puts everyone at a disadvantage. Kuykendall should have just waited for the big quad until district play is supposed to begin, which would have been Week 4. I know it's a new stadium, but come on now.

And the first week's game I would have suggested? Have Frisco High School's Raccoons play in the very first game. On a Friday night. The district's original school.......playing the original opener. That would have been a much better fit.

Oh, and the district has to do this quad again next year, with the schools flip-flopping home-and-home. After this year's gripe, you have to wonder what the players and coaches think about it when next year starts.

August 27. That's the date of the event, but it will be divided into two sessions: Session I with games at 9 am and 12:30 pm, and then the stadium will clear out completely. The other session is Session II, starting with a 5 pm game, followed by another at 8:30 pm.

    Game 1: Independence vs Reedy
Game 2: Lone Star vs Heritage
    Game 3: Liberty vs Wakeland
    Game 4: Centennial vs Frisco

Well, not necessarily, now that I think about it. The newness will be gone next year, so the scheduling could be dispersed to the other stadiums (and playing the games on Thursday or Friday) when the 2017 season begins. We'll chase that rabbit when we get there, so it's just speculation now.
