Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A New Saturday Night Church Offering That I Might Try

This really doesn't get talked about much in this space, but I do make an effort to go to church. That's been part of my life for a big chunk of it. Since my work schedule includes Sunday mornings (and has in recent years), I am limited to attending churches that hold services on Saturday. Nothing wrong with that, and I'm cool with that. I've been a member of a number of churches here in the Dallas-Fort Worth area for years at a time, some large, some smaller.

My church involvement, admittedly, has been less in recent years than it ever was. From a spiritual standpoint, I've been a bit discouraged and down. I decided to leave my last church (Fellowship Church) more than five years ago. For the most part, I have visited a large church in Southlake, Texas (Gateway Church), which is a wonderful, growing congregation. As much as I appreciate the efforts of their pastor, Robert Morris, there are just some portions of his preaching and style that I have trouble getting a grasp with. I also have reservations about many of the church's members, who won't seem to introduce themselves when I'm greeting and meeting them for the first time. Since God always closes one door, he'll always open up another door. I thought Gateway could be that church, as I love their staff members, plus their music ministry includes well-known singers such as Tim Sheppard and Mark Harris (formerly of 4Him). But something else has just come into the fray.

There's a church in Frisco, Texas, which is about fourteen years old and is now at a brand-new building on 33 acres, just opened fourteen months ago. It is Preston Trail Community Church. I just happened, last weekend, to tune into a sermon on my computer. I got to hear one of their pastors, Paul Basden. This is interesting; that church has two co-pastors. The other guy is Jim Johnson. I've had the privilege of listening to him, as well. And guess what else? This afternoon, as of this writing, they are beginning Saturday night services in their new facility. So far, the preaching and vision for the church have won this erstwhile Baptist over. Let's see what the rest of the church does.

God may well be opening up a new door this very day, and it refreshing. This may become a real opportunity to revive something that needed reviving. Gateway may go in my rear view mirror without having joined it. Preston Trail will offer something new.

Let's give this some time. Service went great, and I've learned a little bit about how that church ticks. Haven't met anyone yet, but that's OK. Stuff like that takes time. There will be more visits. I even got something that even Gateway never had done, and that's that I got a phone call from one of Preston Trail's members about an event to connect prospective members this coming Sunday afternoon.

All right, then. A few steps at a time; that's all it takes.

I've met some new singles, both at church and away from it, in the past few weeks. Maybe things are looking up.
