Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Lazy Co-Workers: You Just Can't Live With Them

Face it, sports fans: Your workplace should always have things going as smooth as possible. When you have one co-worker that's out of sync from everybody else, it can make things very frustrating.

No workplace will ever be perfect; I'll give you that. But in my sphere of comfort's sacrifice, there has to be everyone giving some kind of effort, making workable and positive and constructive progress toward achieving office goals. I have one co-worker that has got to be the most underachieving lot I have ever seen. I mean, this guy cannot apply himself, he bellyaches a lot, he complains about things beyond his control, and he panics about nothing. His name's not important, but he is from another country. Oh, and he has a very heavy accent.

And what's the company done? Nothing. Well, not enough, anyway, but I'll pontificate shortly. This co-worker also tries to tick off other co-workers with one variable or another. He does, occasionally, have isolated incidents where he starts having communication problems with people over the phone, be it drivers or call center people, what have you. As a matter of fact, this employee had recently been issued a final written warning by management team members and by human resources. That last shoe has to drop sooner or later, knowing him. Half-hearted in this part of the country means half-assed, as we Texans tend to like to call it. Half-assed efforts don't win favor from higher-ups.

As for me, I'm seeing my company try to fill vacated spots with people from the temp agency. They say it's cost-effective, but it doesn't always bring the most people. If we could find one temp good enough to pass muster, and he/she can really bring something to the workplace table, then, perhaps, that person can replace the lazy, do-nothing, know-nothing co-worker who is driving this writer and everybody else crazy.
