South Florida east coast or west coast?

About a year ago, I was transferred to Naples, from the Boca Raton area of FL. After 10 years of east coast living, I expected the beautiful beaches, shopping, entertainment, and everything else to be comparable to the east coast. The biggest difference I find, is the attitudes of the folks that live here. There is a different climate here, reflecting the laid-back, unassuming, kind and generous attitudes of the mid-western personality. In the east, it seems to be more about what you have, who you are, what your kids have accomplished, what art you collect, ect, in other words, very materialistic. Imagine walking on the beach, meeting someone with an easy smile, who is more than happy to tell you about the best place for happy hour, nicest beach for the sunset, no mention of his status, wealth, position, or what country club he frequents. After a year I am still surprised by the unpretentious attitude of the people that make up this awesome town
