What defines a Townie?

There is a never-ending debate over what defines a townie in certain towns. Is it that your grandfather’s father had resided in the town? Or is it you have to live in that town for longer than 20 years? I did some research on the definition of being a townie, according to Webster, a townie is any resident that lives in a town where a university also resides and that individual may or may not attend the university. I don’t recall a university in the town of Canton so I kept on researching. Wikipedia’s definition of a townie is anyone who is a life long resident of said town. I digress, what does that have to do with Canton MA or further more any town in the greater Boston area? I think its notion of pride. With all that being said, I love when I meet people who move to Canton that are not born and raised here, I always want to know how they picked my town? What was the deciding factor? Was it the schools? Was it the house, what made these folks, who come from other exciting places to settle on Canton? Usually they have different answers, some say the great schools, some say family that’s close, and others say the commute. But lets be honest about our commute, leaving Canton to get to the major highway could take 25 minutes! Digging a little deeper, I find out, its more about the community. Our community! Canton is a close knit community and, its a community that opens its arms to others. It is a proud community where folks invite you to the local pub for a beverage, embrace new businesses like The Main Course Market and Mission Clothing. I love my town, and the friends that I have had forever, and the new ones that I have met along the way.
