Thursday, December 31, 2015 ~~ It is already tomorrow today in Australia.

Posted 12-31-2015 at 08:21 PM by CSD610

That sounds odd doesn't it for a title but it is true. With the time difference it is already tomorrow today there. I always thought we here have a good chance of tomorrow getting here if it is already tomorrow today in Australia.

So, once again it is the end of another year and the end of this year brings things that I never dreamed would happen all in the same year. You all have your own things that have happened and hopefully they have been exciting and good overall.

As you all know from the last blog I wrote, I had a stroke on August 18, 2015. It was quite possibly the most terrifying experience of my entire life and I am still remembering bits and pieces of the events that day and the week following.

I am not the only one scared and possibly scarred for the rest of our lives though. Our entire families have been affected from this single event and a couple of people who are not part of our family as well.

I won't babble on about specific details but I will tell you all that I am about 98% back to my normal as of today. I will also tell you that I have no more physical therapy at a facility, any I do will be done on my own.
Physically I am better but I do still limp a wee bit, I am off balance a wee bit, I still have muscle spasms from time to time and I do not have complete use of my left arm and hand. These things are physical and it can take at least one year or more from the time of the stroke to regain all normal function. Then again I may be as normal right now as I am going to be, only time will answer that mystery.

The real battle is the mental and emotional side of the stroke. It is trying to come to terms as gracefully as possible with an instant lifestyle change. Going from doing everything for yourself to doing nothing for yourself and having zero control over your entire body and it's natural functions.

It is the not being able to just get up out of a chair or just get into bed or wash the dishes, carry a plate in one hand and a glass in the other or getting into the shower without having to think about it.

Having a stroke is not for the weak of will children and I strongly urge you to take a good look at your lifestyle and see what you can do to better your health to avoid this type of health issue. This is not getting stitches, this is a long term, life changing moment.

The other thing that happened this year is that we finally found a home we like and we bought it. We moved in August but are still not unpacked or organized. We closed on the house on August 10, 2015 and I had the stroke on August 18, 2015. Our lives as we had known them stopped at that moment.

We will recover just fine eventually but getting to eventually is taking longer than I like. Every headache is suspect, every day I don't feel good is suspect, every test, poke, prod, needle poke or scan is suspect and it is a mental strain that can drive one to drink if they did not have so many anti stroke medications to take now.

In light of everything that has gone bad I still thank God everyday when I wake up.
This is purely my belief and I am not preaching or pushing. I will say though, I am always appreciative of prayers if one would be inclined to include me and mine and thank you in advance. We appreciate your generosity, kindness and compassion.

Thankfully our dog Walter is still with us, he is 13 and has hip dysplasia but doing very well and is still healthy. Our two cats Cailleach and Suze Quze are ornery as ever and have settled into our new home quite well. My Mother is doing fine, my Brother's knee finally healed, both of my Niece's are great and I became a Great Aunt for the first time.

Unfortunately I have yet to meet my Great Nephew but with my health issues I have been unable to visit or have many visitors.
Once things settle down completely and I proceed further in my recovery, can travel better and the weather is favorable we will be meeting him.

So with the end of this year comes the end of this blog and I will leave you to ponder some final thoughts if you so choose.

Do you keep New Year's resolutions?
Do you like chocolate bunnys?
Do you use sugar or other sweetener in your tea?
Do you have specific goals for the next week?
Do you use an electric toothbrush?

As usual I wish you restful sleep and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber.

That's great on your return to near-full health. A stroke is never a fun thing to go through, but I believe you have triumphed, just to make it back this far. Many folks take longer or never get that far back after a stroke. I'm pulling for you to make a complete 100 percent recovery.

God bless you in this New Year, and I am so glad that you are a great contributor to these C-D blog pages. We have a fabulous mix of people here.
