Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Looks Like The Chips Fell The Right Way This Time

Posted 12-29-2015 at 06:34 PM by case44

Isn't it amazing what a job in a round-the-clock dispatch center can do for a human being? For the first time in about eight years, I actually get to be off on New Year's Day. For once, the chips happened to fall in a good way.

Oh, where I've worked has generally been good to me, but it's wrecked my social life when it comes to events like what goes on this Thursday night, when they drop the ball in Times Square to ring in yet another New Year. Many folks will be at various locations celebrating with friends or whoever they can hook up with, be it dancing or drinking or what have you. It used to be a ritual for me in the past, but not much in the last fifteen years. When I had to go to work, that's what I'd do, because I was scheduled and I was needed. This year will be different because it will offer a change. Now, this change does come with a challenge: Exactly where will I plan to ring in the New Year??

Thanks to the internet and, maybe, a few words of mouth, I'll scramble to find someplace to go. I don't have any church people to hang out with since I've left the last group I was with a few years back, so right now, I'll just have to find something else for now. I don't wish to make that big of a deal, but we are ringing in a brand new year in just a couple of moons. What will 2016 bring? All we can do is find out.
