Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting / A Product Not Living Up To Its Name

Posted 12-05-2015 at 07:20 AM by case44

Here we go once again with more scattershooting for you right here on Case's Column. And if we cover things here, then you know it must be legit. So, sit back, relax, and just let a whole lot of things happen on your computer screen. And, like I said, here we go!

Friday, I stopped by a new local gas station/convenience store chain called FastFuels. You can tell what the concept of this is going to be whilst just driving in to the parking lot. Well, I pulled up to the pump and proceeded to pay the cashier to set up my spot, and then went back outside and started to pump in the fuel. The pump was going reeeeealll slowwwww. Now, to be fair, there were a couple of construction workers nearby in the parking lot doing some kind of work with a hole in the ground. Not sure if it had anything to do with the gas pumps, but you never know.

Oh, I might be back. FastFuels? Try SlowPump.

In my favorites repertoire, I have a pic of the Dallas skyline as viewed from Stemmons Freeway (Interstate 35E) in 1961. I point this out because that had to have been, at the time, Texas' widest freeway. Most freeways in that period generally were built with 2 or 3 lanes in each direction. Check out this pic.

The holidays are here, and part of the process includes food, especially finger foods and snacks. You may want to add this to the list du jour to go along with the Christmas-tree shaped cookies.

This writer has plans to go back to Natchitoches, Louisiana, for his next vacation. Plans are still in the works and the approval for that off time is pending at this writing. I'll keep you posted.

Also at work, I made a boo-boo in the computer, as I let a personal conversation between myself via instant message slip into a couple of orders last week. Yikes! I'll likely be meeting with management this next week, but hopefully, that, too, will get resolved. I forgot to delete that particular message and start a brand new one when it comes to new orders. Thankfully, they were orders the other team members would not have looked at, and no controversial incidents or disruptions had taken place since.

You could say, for now, that I can breathe a sigh of relief.

More stuff on Dallas now: NorthPark Center becomes fifty years old this year. This time-tested shopping mecca is still the class of North Texas and still one of the greatest shopping malls in the world. It's also a fabulous success story in an era when many indoor malls are in decline.

Former WFAA-TV (Channel 8) reporter Doug Fox put a story together for The Dallas Morning News about NorthPark.

Take a look.

Other Dallas news: Valley View Mall is finally going to be replaced...........in a very big way. Designers are putting together a thing called Midtown, a new North Dallas district with plans for so many different things. Quite ambitious.

And still more from the Metroplex, but this one's an idle thought. The North Texas Tollway Authority ought to consider subtraction gantries for exits. I say this because travelers on the main lanes go through the gantry on the tollway giving the drivers the overall cost of that particular portion of the road. But what about the part of the road that doesn't get used? Think about it. Wouldn't you want that money back for the road you don't use? Yes, technologically, it can be done.

After all, in Oklahoma's former system of collecting change and taking tickets on their turnpike system, drivers can actually give back money for the portions of those roadways not travelled. Such an idea is worth considering here in Texas on all toll roads.

Folks, please pray for the United States in the coming year. It's a presidential election year, and it's the most important one in American history up to this point, and also one that will determine whether our nation returns to its previous greatness or faces serious destruction as never before.

We have a sitting president who is clearly uninterested and disinterested in protecting our precious soil from those who want to destroy us. Pray for our government (those willing to lead and those who aren't). Pray, also, for our police officers and firefighters. We tend to take them for granted since they're there to protect and to serve, and they go into harm's way every day. Pray for our state and local government officials that they make wise choices and decisions in the everyday goings-on in the places where we live.

In addition, pray for the presidential hopefuls who are bidding to become America's forty-fifth president. We need leadership in the worst possible way, and we need to be rescued from a dire situation for our well-being and our federal government. Pray for a return to constitutional government and keeping intact the freedom of the individual.

********

Finally, and try not to laugh at this, but please pray for the construction workers who are tirelessly working on rebuilding freeways and interchanges across the country. I think about those guys in Dallas (yes, that again) who are working on a challenging project in the Dallas Mixmaster (the interchange of Interstates 35E and 30), and it's dangerous with where they are and what they must do. Drivers have to use extreme caution when navigating this area. Can you imagine being a construction worker? And with this? Pray for their safety.

My wish for you is a happy, Merry Christmas, followed by a joyous and prosperous New Year!

And there you are.

Nackatich? Haven't been, but have heard its proper pronunciation.

Downtown Dallas driving is a little scary. Have to be alert, even when there's no construction. Newspeople there may want to tell people to avoid that interchange if they haven't already.
