Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

At Least, Frisco Schools GET To Do This

This type of thing doesn't happen every week in most Texas school districts, and it's all due to distance, proximity, logistics, and individual planning. In the case of Frisco, Texas, and its school district, you can say that miracles never cease.

Here's the skinny: The weather forecast is calling for heavy thunderstorms with lots of lightning on Friday night. Two football games were planned for that night. Two others were taking place on Thursday night, when there was still sunny and cloudy weather. Thinking ahead, the district's athletic office decided on a great idea: Move the Friday games to Thursday. This decision was made on Tuesday. With The Colony High's team idle for this week's schedule, it created an opportunity to add a venue not currently available in Frisco at this time. So The Colony officials let two Frisco schools play each other in a game at Tommy Briggs Stadium so they can get same in before the rains were to come in. How cool was that? While Frisco waits for a third stadium to be added to the eventual repertoire (The Star at Frisco[aka Ford Center], owned by the Dallas Cowboys, still under construction), ingenuity just had to be deployed here. I got to see Wakeland and Frisco High play each other at Toyota Stadium while Liberty played Heritage at Memorial Stadium.

Look, this writer does not want to pay seven dollars for a football game and not be able to see a marching band at halftime. It's about priorities.

Only bad thing about that move is this: I'm only getting to see one game instead of two. Whatever I had planned for Friday night, well, sorry.....
