My Thoughts

I am nervous and excited about my upcoming trip to Arizona. It will be wonderful to once again have a place to call my home!
To understand why this is such a big deal for me, I probably should post some background info. In my late 50's, I became unemployed, and though I tried applying to many different types of jobs, I was constantly told that I was overqualified. I used up all of my IRA funds trying to keep my home of 20+ years, but still ended up losing my house in 2009. I later received a very small settlement from the mortgage company.
I ended up moving into my mother's house where I lived with my mom and youngest brother (who is an alcoholic). A few months after I moved in with mom, she passed away. Mom's home is in a very economically depressed and unsafe area, and the house sat on the market for two years. The only sale offer was for less money than my parents had paid for the home back in the 1960's. As I was still unemployed with no job prospect and my youngest brother (who has never held a job for longer than a 1-year period) was also unemployed, our next door neighbor purchased the home, and we were to pay her back.
Once I started receiving SSA, I began paying the neighbor back and also purchased a car with my daughter's help. This month, I will finish paying my daughter back for the car purchase, and by now I've paid the neighbor half of the price she paid to purchase the house.
While I lived in my mother's house for years, I never felt that it was my home, and living with an alcoholic was stressful to say the least. I had originally planned to leave in November but things got really bad with my brother, and I moved in with my daughter last month.
This Sunday, October 11th, I will start on my journey to explore Arizona, and I have appointments to see an apartment complex and several other rentals in Benson and Saint David. I will post more once I reach Arizona.
