Money, Money, Money
1 Timothy 6:17 (NIV)- Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. - It seems very fashionable and politically correct to dislike rich people today simply because they have a lot of money. But if we had the choice we'd have no problem being rich like them. Except for being rich the wealthy are just like everyone else, and they need Jesus Christ too. But the scriptures tell us that people with a lot of earthly wealth can be very poor spiritually. While the scriptures do not forbid having wealth (Solomon was the richest man of his time, with wealth given by God), they do warn us that riches can make us arrogant, cause us to turn our backs on our fellow man, and worst of all make us put our hope in them instead of God who provides everything we need. There is no question that having a lot of money can make some worldly things easier, and we'd all like to have more of it, but it can also cause problems like those told about in scripture. Jesus said in Mark 8:36 - What good is it for someone to gain the whole world, yet forfeit their soul? - He's saying that our souls are worth more to us than the whole world with all its riches. With that in mind, shouldn't we be concerned about our souls and ask Christ to save us? As it says in 1 Peter 1:18-19 - For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect . Money can be used for many things but not for our salvation. What About Jesus?
