Why Religiosity and Religions are so Critical to the Majority?

Posted 09-18-2015 at 10:38 PM by Continuum

Why Religiosity?

1. Humans are programmed to survive at all costs and to avoid premature death, terrible fears, pains and suffering are programed to deter and facilitate survival.

2. However for other good reasons humans are also programmed with self-awareness which also enable them to be aware of inevitable death [mortality]. This awareness sub-consciously and instinctly trigger the relevant primal circuits [fears, anxieties, etc] in 1 above.

3. A cognitive dissonance is created subliminally or explicitly within the human psyche and create a psychological complex that manifest in all sort of anxieties and angst that compel the individual to seek consonance to relieve the associated angst, fears, pains and sufferings, i.e. the existential dilemma. Note this activity is subliminal within the psyche and many are only reminded of it when one see the death of spouse, near relatives, and close friends where grief is spontaneously triggered. To avoid paralysis of action and life, such a cognitive dissonance is suppressed but it is nevertheless brewing subliminally as a complex within.

4. Such an existential dilemma is inherent and unavoidable in all humans as it is embedded in the DNA/RNA. Therefore ALL humans will have it within but that psychological complex manifest differently and varies across humans.

5. The majority will experience it subliminally as if [analogically] they are grasping for breath. As such they are inclined toward the theological and religions to relieve the psychological angst and it works immediately and is thus very effectively for them. Just believe and viola! the angst is gone. This is why religiosity and religions are such a critical necessity to the majority.
The issue with religion [especially theistic] is it has a baggage of irrationality and the need to believe in an illusory God and other negative/evil baggage. Theists will go to all length to suppress the element of irrationality and absurdities to defend their belief that provide them the relief, even to the extent of killing those are perceived as a threat as condone by their religions, e.g. Islam [partly] and by SOME Muslim

6. The cognitive dissonance and angst are in ALL humans. Those who rise above theistic religions and God will opt for effective secular approaches or they are just indifferent to the issue. Whilst some secular approaches are very rational and effective, unfortunately some of those who are indifferent resort to drugs, crime and other secular negatives. All these secular evils and negatives should be dealt with.

However what is of greater concern at present is the terrible violence and evils arising from one very active religion that catalyze SOME [not all] of its believer to commit terrible violence and evils, i.e. Islam which in part not whole contain evil elements in the [Quran, Hadiths, Muhammad, ethos].

No other main religion [Hinduism-Vedanta, Buddhism, Jainism, Christianity-NT, Taoism, ] at present has such large amounts of active elements in its holy texts that are vulnerable to catalyze their believers to commit evil and proven by an extensive real evidence of evils.

Therefore progressive humans had the responsibility to highlight the significant evil elements that are present in religion and to find solutions to resolve them.
