Me And My Brother

Posted 09-02-2015 at 12:10 PM by aliasfinn

When we were little my younger brother and I had to go to catechism class one summer, I think just to get out of our parents hair. The place didn't look like a school, it was located in a shopping center but it did have school desks inside. It was free there was no registration, the kids just signed their name on a sheet of paper each day on the teacher's desk. My brother signed his name and then I signed mine and for some reason I signed the name of Tommy Shea after my name. I didn't even know a Tommy Shea but I did that every day for about a week and then just quit doing it. About a week later the teacher asked the class if they knew where Tommy Shea was because he had been absent for so long. I raised my hand and told her that Tommy was killed when he was run over by a car a week back. The teacher said " Oh my Lord " I could see my brother in the next row over staring at me with a bewildered look on his face. The teacher spent that day teaching us prayers to say for my fictitious friend. When class was over my brother asks me " Who's Tommy Shea?" I told him he was nobody and that I had made him up and my brother said " You're always up to something." As we got older my brother learned to follow my lead when I began to fabricate a story. When I was around 10 and my brother was 8 we went to this construction site,I think it was fathers day and we were looking for something to get the old man, tools or a box of nails or something. I found this hunk of chain,I think it was a busted dog leash and I began swinging it as we explored. A cop drove up and asked what we were doing and I told him we were looking for our dog. The cop looks at the leash in my hand and asks what kind of dog was it and my brother quickly jumps in " He is a small dog, kinda like Snoopy but he is brown." The nice cop then drives us around so we can look for our imaginary dog,my brother got a kick out of riding in the police car. After awhile I started to believe we actually did lose a dog. The search lasted about 20 minutes and he dropped us off at the corner and said he would pass the word around to keep a lookout for a small brown dog and for us to stay away from the construction site. There was another time when we rode our bikes to a park in another neighborhood and encountered four tough kids who were older than us and wanted to start something. There was no way I was going to fight that many so I told them my brother just got out of the hospital from having heart surgery and he is not supposed to get into fights. My brother starts holding his chest pretending he is having pains and the tough kids decide not to mess with him so they just push me into some bushes and leave. I was satisfied with that, it could have been much worse if not for the teamwork of me and my brother.
