How to fight back against heart disease

Posted 08-04-2015 at 07:37 AM by DavidRaonic

Heart disease affects millions of Canadians. One of the simplest ways to prevent heart disease and other chronic diseases is through exercise. Whether you have suffered a heart attack or at risk of developing heart disease, it is important to keep your heart and body healthy through physical activity and other lifestyle changes. Exercise is a significant element of prevention and recovery. It is important to consult a regulated health professional who will assess your condition and develop a plan that meets your specific needs and is safe to follow, allowing you to achieve a healthy and full lifestyle.

Kinesiologists are regulated health professionals in Ontario who work in the area of injury and disease prevention and rehabilitation. Many kinesiologists work in cardiac rehabilitation with patients challenged by heart disease to develop recovery and prevention strategies through monitored physical activity and lifestyle coaching.

The College of Kinesiologists is the body that regulates the profession in Ontario. Only members of the College are permitted to use the title kinesiologist. The College exists to protect the public by setting rigorous requirements to enter the profession, developing standards of practice and a code of ethics, and requiring registered members to participate annually in continuing professional development.

Consumers are confronted with endless amounts of health and wellness information, and it is hard to know what advice is safe to follow. Registered professionals are accountable to the College for their work. If you have concerns about the care or services you received, it's your right to contact the College, and the College will investigate.
