How to find the perfect summer moment

Posted 07-30-2015 at 08:04 AM by DavidRaonic

Summertime in Canada is a season that is often characterized as never being long enough. Canadians, however, are perfectly adapted to take advantage of every single moment and we are always ready to embrace the promised warm weather, long nights around a campfire and the summer road trips.

Did you know that something new is waiting for you in any one of the many national parks and historic sites all across the country? This year, for example, visitors will be able to seek out more than 500 of the iconic, red Muskoka chairs. They have been placed at the most spectacular viewpoints where we are invited to sit back and take in all the beauty Canada has to offer.

At the end of a leisurely hike or perhaps a more rigorous climb, you might find a pair of red chairs waiting just for you. These Muskoka chairs aren't placed at just any location. Parks Canada is luring you to see spectacular landscapes. “As we thought about these special spots – some of which are known and others are hidden gems throughout the Parks Canada network – we came up with the idea of placing the red chairs specifically for people to stop, enjoy these views, and to connect with these places,” says Ed Jager, the director of visitor experience at Parks Canada. “Our team had a great time picking the perfect spots for them. It was a bit like sharing our own treasures with visitors since the chairs are an invitation to slow down, take a break, and to make the most of such a special place where nature or history make it so inspiring.”

Imagine exploring Cape Breton Highlands National Park and, as you reach the end of your trail you emerge from the forest and are overcome by the smells and sounds of the Atlantic Ocean. This is your moment. You could be in Jasper National Park with friends, grab a map or a GPS that will take you from the alpine meadows to the enchanting waterside oases. This is your moment. Roam the historic walls of Fort Lennox National Historic Site, walk through the drawbridges, past a parade field, to reach an isolated and peaceful spot with a view that will enchant you. This is your moment.

“Every spot has a personalized approach,” adds Jager, “but in every case, visitors are encouraged to share their precious moments by posting photos on Parks Canada's social media channels. This summer is your time to connect – and you may notice that all roads lead to the red chairs.”
