hunterseat df: Hunter Seat Equitation is a division that is judged on the ability and the style of the rider. The riders can be judged both over fences and on the flat.

Although true, hunters DO eat, at least the skilled ones do, my name derives from the world of horses.

And because the word hunter is in my name, people automatically think I'm a guy. Not even close.

Whenever I meet someone named Hunter I have to bite my tongue to keep from saying "That's my name, too!"

Leaving

Posted 05-28-2015 at 04:55 PM by hunterseat

Wow. Words are so cool. Looking at this title you may wonder if this is about trees in Autumn. Naw. This is about leaving a place.

I was in the Marine Corps a long time ago. My squadron made occasional trips to Key West (from California). Somehow I always managed to get on those trips. (and not on trips to the desert) Key West, as you probably know or can imagine was a really fun place to go for a pack of young Marines. We worked hard but we played hard, too. Somehow it always seemed to rain the day we left. Two weeks of sun and fun and the day we say goodbye - rain. During those trips I decided it was always better to leave a place when it's raining. Because rain isn't hard to leave. We don't normally wish for rain - except in Texas and you see where it got them. Okay, that was in poor taste since people have lost lives from the flooding. Also it's the first time in three years my friends in Harper-by-God Texas have had to crank up the lawn mowers. But it's raining there. It would be a good time to leave for a while.

We were in Hawaii for a year (2013). The day we left was Christmas. We got pretty good ticket prices. The last memory of Hawaii isn't the rain and waving aloha as we shivered in the frigid 72 degree weather. No. We spent that morning on the beach IN BATHING SUITS laying out in the sun and swimming in the gorgeous blue ocean. That's so bittersweet. If it had been raining for a couple of weeks I would be in more of a position to say "we were ready to leave". But really? We did the serious face slap. What were we thinking??!!

So here we are in Atlanta. Making arrangements for a move back up to Connecticut. I absolutely love my job but it's not permanent and that's no fun. Neither is moving. But my last two moves involved nothing but a couple of suitcases and furkids. We'll actually have a moving truck with furniture! Hot dog! All I need's a cd player and audio books! Anyway, next week is my last week. Gotta say goodbye and turn in my laptop and blackberry.

I hope it rains.

One point I forgot to make that I think of daily as I drive around here - getting ready to leave. I've made my last site visits and turned in my work equipment. As I said goodbye to my various customers, the places looked a lot different than they used to. My eyes took in the familiar features of the buildings and grounds but somehow, they looked different.
Now, as I wrap up my packing and get ready to load the moving truck tomorrow, things are looking very different. My pets are stressed out but I try to reassure them that I'm not leaving them. Not ever again. I've done that... left them for months. Never again. So they see me pack their items - bedding, crates, squeaky toys. The fun will be when the truck comes tomorrow and I get their travel beds in place. I think it will dawn on them that they are going with us on this adventure. Looking forward to being on the road.
