Sunday ~~ May 10, 2015 ~~ She thought she heard her Mother's voice..

She decided to move toward her parents bedroom door as quickly and quietly as possible.

Right when she was getting ready to reach for the door handle, the door flung wide open and all she could see was someone standing there with a flashlight shining in their face.

She screamed as loud as she possibly could and tried to run to the bedroom window but she couldn't move. Whoever was holding the flashlight grabbed her wrist and would not let go.

He softly said to her "You really need to calm down, no one is going to hurt you". She dared not turn around but she couldn't help herself.
She did quit screaming and she did turn around very slowly. Again all she could see was someone shining a flashlight in their face.

Right about the time she was getting ready to scream again she heard her Mother's voice calling her name. Suddenly the electricity came back on and all the lights in the house turned on at the same time. Trying to adjust her eyes to the sudden brightness she heard her Mother again. This time her Mother was closer and telling her everything was just fine.

She looked at whoever it was holding her by the wrist and she did not recognize his face but there was something familiar about him.
She wasn't sure who it was but he said her name. She decided he only knew her name because her Mother had called out to her.

All of a sudden the man holding her arm started pulling her gently toward the living room. She was trying not to move but she had no choice. He was much bigger and much stronger than she is.

As soon as they got to the living room the entire room exploded with applauds and shouts and she had no idea what was going on.

Then she took a good look at the man holding her wrist and he called her by her nickname. The one nickname that no one else but him used. She could not believe what she heard then it sunk in who the man was.

The last time she had seen him he looked much younger and much different. He was clean shaved, 20 years old and headed to boot camp. The man holding her wrist had a full beard, was very tall, very muscular and had a cast on his other arm.

She screamed again but it was for joy this time. The man who had her by the wrist was her brother that she had not seen in 5 years.

After boot camp he got sent overseas and rarely contacted her or her parents because of what he was doing in the Military.

She literally jumped up in his arms and gave him the biggest, longest hug she could. Then she covered his face with kisses even though she was being tickled by his beard and moustache she did not care.

When he finally put her on the floor her knees were weak but she was so happy.
Everyone in the room started clapping and cheering and there were tears flowing like a soft river.

He had been injured on his last assignment and was given the choice to stay overseas and heal or go home. He decided it was time to go home for a while and see his Parents, the rest of his family and his friends.
It was time to leave work and war behind and just be him for a while to rest and heal his mind, body, heart and soul.

So this day of all days he arrived home without anyone knowing he was coming.
He was able to surprise everyone with help from the neighbors where his parents were for the evening but it was not an easy task.

The storm helped a bit but he felt bad because he scared his baby sister so much.
He thinks she might forgive him pretty easily though.

So this story ends with a son returning home, a daughter getting to know her brother again and a Mother's Day party that will not soon be forgotten.

I wish you restful sleep and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber.
