The Immigrant (2013) and La Strada (1954)
Just saw The Immigrant yesterday and then tuned in to TCM a few hours later and watched La Strada. Then it hit me, right when Zampano was chasing Il Matto the first time, these two films are connected. In The Immigrant, substitute Bruno Weiss for Zampano, and Emil for Il Matto, and of course Ewa for Gelsomina. Such a great homage.
Not that this is ground breaking news, as when I did a search for The Immigrant and La Strada, this connection has of course already been made by many reviewers. I just happened to see both back to back - an outstanding double feature!
And the final scene was unforgettable and so beautifully done.
The Immigrant is essential viewing.
