Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Time To Roar In Southwest Frisco

Posted 02-13-2015 at 08:08 PM by case44

The moment which some Friscoans have waited for has finally arrived. While there's much more work to be done on Rick Reedy High School in southwest Frisco, Texas, students destined to be heading there have decided on the official mascot.

Ladies and gentlemen, we present the Reedy Lions.

Great job, kiddos. In fact, I had this thought that they might use that mascot name, and, so, I've speculated that they'd do it. And......................they did. Now, more tasks are ahead, such as naming the drill team, the yearbook, and the school newspaper, not to mention the selection of letter jackets and the establishment of new traditions. Teachers and vice principals are going through the hiring process, and all I know they have is a principal, a head vice principal, a secretary, and a head football coach. We'll know more about the band director and many other positions that hold our interests in a matter of mere days and weeks. For now, Frisco's eighth high school abounds in lions. The Reedy Lions will enroll only sophomores and freshmen this coming fall, and will add a class in each of the next two years before graduating their charter class in 2018.

I can just see it now for next year's football games: The mane attraction is here tonight.....

Oh, I had this thought last night at a Frisco Whataburger while getting supper: I parked my car to go in, and there was this awful skunk odor out there. So, with that taking place at the Whataburger at the Dallas North Tollway and Eldorado Parkway, it give me a humorous idea for a future mascot. This one would be for the new Memorial High School, which is slated for new construction three blocks away at Frisco Street and Eldorado (to open in 2017). Since Friscoans like to pay homage to their history, we could call Memorial's mascot the Memorial Skunks!

Okay, now, you know that that's not going to happen, but a skunk did roam around that parking lot before I'd gotten there....

Where your post is concerned, Frisco just keeps getting larger and larger. Seems like there's a high school on every block there. For any student to just up and move to a new school, there's always some semblance of sacrifice that comes with it.

It should also be noted that Reedy will be the first Frisco high school to employ green in its color scheme, and hopefully, the kids there will take full advantage. That's in case you haven't figured it out after my bold highlight in the colum.
