Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A No-Spin Cycle? Free Clothes Washing A Wash For Now

Posted 01-30-2015 at 07:43 AM by case44

This is what can happen when you live in an apartment. Your clothes washer does some funny things instead of the very thing it was designed to do. So, that's what's happened to this writer in recent days.

A snafu in the rented clothes washer caused some minor flooding on my kitchen floor the other day. Fortunately, I was able to reach management in the nick of time and we got everything mopped up. But now, I get word that there are no more good rental washing machines left at the office and they are no longer purchasing any. Other residents already have gotten their own washers and dryers. Case? Well, after I get about a thousand dollars.....

So, now I'm stuck with parting ways with the busted-up washer which now awaits an appointment at the local landfill. I'm having to part with the dryer, as well. So, anytime I need clothes washed, guess what? The apartment "laundromat" which generally has all of the washers tied up with clothes washed by others who aren't in the room at that time. And I can't wait. So there's a public laundromat a few miles away, but they're only open between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Not that that's bad, but what if I have an emergency at, say, 2 in the morning? Oh, well....

Perhaps we can all go back to buckets, gloves, nature's air conditioning, and a clothes line.

So this now means that I'll need to shell out about 3 dollars' worth of quarters each time I go to the laundromat? Yeppers.

Look, I will eventually get a washer and a dryer when the finances and time are right. I have to first deal with other expenses of the medical and vacation kind before I can get caught up. It's just the way it is.
