A little snow goes a long long way

Posted 01-07-2015 at 08:51 PM by Ericthebean

The ideal winter wonderland is a 6-inch mound of pure fine-gained powder snow that keeps its fairy dust-like texture by not getting the chance to melt and then refreeze.

The challenge is that snow precipitates more shyly, if at all, when temperatures drop too far below the freezing mark, as in single digits. But we do not want that wet slushy sleet that ices up. I guess we can't have our cake and eat it too. But there's that balance where you get lots of snow and it's truly powder....I guess if you live in Buffalo or the Vermont ski slopes you don't so much have this issue.

But southern New England, with the exception of last year's winter, snow days are festive moments!

Well, now that coldest weather of the year stretch of the days has come! And on these cold days, we ponder where are the flying snowflakes? Then yesterday they came very gently.....like a sort of tease. You couldn't even see any accumulation, not even a dusting!

But something came down overnight, not sure which flakes actually stuck...let's call it the "just enough flakes" to paint a white Crystal flooring that if on grass....it made it safe to the green carpet.

Well that little snow is all we needed! It's not going anywhere! It will be well below freezing for days....and now all those days will have that shiny snowy wintry brightness....not much less than a 2-foot blizzard! A few snowflakes did the trick :)))

Likewise in the real world, a little bit of kindness and a few loyal friends, like the few snowflakes that held out to make these sub-zero days count for something, well that's all you truly need. :)....the rest we can just call it a bonus .....

I'am not the greatest fan of snow. But in giving snow its proper due it's beautiful to look View. Snow and all its delicacy serves a purpose. The frosty element of snow may help clean our environment. On a personal note however, Tuesday evening the snow was almost a joy to remove. The snow was so lite it could be removed with the slightest of efforts. Enjoyed your blog entry. Great descriptions.

Thank you! I like how you said that. "Frosty element of snow may help clean our environment." This is true because in year-round growing season environments like Hawaii, if trees get poisoned by an invasive plant, there is no season like winter over there to turn it off and restart the growing season fresh and new.
