"Most blacks are unable to speak English well. They cannot conjugate verbs. They have a poor grasp of verb tenses. They have a limited vocabulary. They cannot speak without swearing. I was on a jury trial the other week, in King County Superior Court (Seattle WA). Third time for jury duty, ever, and first time I've actually been on a case. Just luck of the draw, I suppose. Very interesting process.
Middle of Day 2, the hallway outside of 3rd Floor of said-court was actually pretty bustling. The other jurors and I got the old hairy eyeball from some shady folks, though I'm not sure why: is a juror somehow "the man" to some defendants (again referencing the article quoted).
There were six of us picked for this case, and one alternate. Though I don't usually notice such things, I did note it was three white guys (including me), one white guy alternate (juror no. 7), two white ladies, and one young black lady. Defendant was a white, young-ish Central European guy. He was a punk, we all knew it, but the evidence did not support the State's position. Not Guilty, and I slept great that night despite that he was guilty of "something" for-sure. Justice actually was served that day, though.
Point being one juror brought up in the deliberation room she thought it suspicious Mr. Defendant didn't speak. I pointed out his right not to. I'm guessing his accent (found out at trial he had one) and rather uneducated look would have, as the quote indicates, worked against him. That's just how people are, and yes us educated folk (white, black, brown, yellow, whatever) in FACT have very little time for ghetto antics. We get really teed off by it, just to be clear, though we're no longer allowed to say that out loud, apparently. "That's racist," whoever the aggrieved party may be, though ghetto-ignorant young white boys tee me far more than any other group: they have NO excuse, based on history.
