Friday ~~ December 5, 2014 ~~ How is the Season of giving going for you so far?

Posted 12-05-2014 at 10:24 AM by CSD610

Have you been out shopping with the masses or have you decided to cut back on the shopping this year and returned to more giving of self?

We don't do the shopping, gift giving for everyone, just our grandchildren, everyone else gets a Christmas Card if I take the time to send them out.

We give of self, our time, a few dollars here and there, clothing donations, other household items, non perishable food items to the food pantry, things like that. The difference is that we do these things all the time not just this time of year.

We are not boasting by any means just stating a fact and the reason we do these things all year is because we have been so blessed. We have always had what we need as far as food, shelter, clothing and enough money to pay monthly debts. These things may not have been what we wanted but our needs have always been met.

We by no stretch of the imagination eat steaks every day but we still eat. There were a few years not that many years ago that we ate a lot of Rice a Roni. It is amazing how many different ways one can utilize this product. This is our version of eating Ramen Noodles everyday.

We had quite a few vegetarian meals as well even though we are not vegetarian. When all you have in the pantry or freezer is vegetables you learn how to make vegetable soup and if you are lucky you have a wee bit of barley left as well.

Not everyone is rich and not everyone is poor but everyone can become rich in their souls by giving of self. Doing for others, volunteering at a shelter or a soup kitchen.
Donating old coats, hats, gloves, clothing, household items. A few cans of vegetables on sale at Aldi, a few boxes of Rice a Roni, a dozen packages of Ramen Noodles, a few cents into the red kettle. No matter how small it all makes a difference. Even those individual pennys add up to dollars given enough time and pennys.

Think about the way you do things this time of year and throughout the year if you want.
It definitely isn't a requirement but is there one small change you can make to make a difference to someone else? Even if that someone else is a stranger, would it cause you distress to donate an old coat or toss a few cents into the kettle?

Just thoughts going through my mind today that I wanted to share, do what you will with them.

A few more thoughts to ponder if you choose:

Do you have a smart phone?
Is your smart phone smarter than you?
Do you keep an address book on your computer?
Do you take a probiotic daily?
When was the last time you went for a walk just to enjoy being outside?
Do you prefer Almonds or Peanuts?

As usual I wish you restful sleep and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber.
