Sunday ~~ October 26, 2014 ~~ Here it is 20 days after my birthday and it has been a tough 20 days...partially...

I was going to write the blog on our Anniversary which is October 13, 2014 but it appears I got distracted so the blog did not get written.

Then 3 days later it was one of my Brother In Laws anniversary and we got wrapped in that.
Then the next day October 17, 2014 we found out that a very special child had crossed over.

This is where the tough part comes in and I'll share a bit of this child with you but only a wee bit because we did not know him that well.

He is/was 15 years old and had been diagnosed with a very rare, very aggressive type of bone cancer about the time he turned 14.

Obviously his parents did everything they could to treat this child medically but his growing into a man was not to be. His poor body did not respond to any of the treatment and within about 1.5 years he crossed over.

I met him once and spent about an hour with him but I have never met a 15 year old boy who left such an impression on me as this child did.
He was just different and special and he did not complain about his illness nor did he complain that he was going to die within a short period of time.

He was very happy, very loving, very giving, and honestly such a joy to have in our home, even for the brief time he was here.
Our cats loved him and he loved the macaroni and cheese I had just finished cooking about the time he and his father walked into the house.

It would have been such an honor and a pleasure for us to watch this child grow into an adult and see where his life path would lead.
It just wasn't meant to be and our Souls have been full of sorrow beyond belief.

Neither of us (Mr. CSD and I) would have ever dreamed that a child we barely knew would have such an impact on our lives but he did.

We will think of him often and wonder what he would have been doing at that point in his life if he had not died and we will remember him every year on the date of his death.

I wish him restful sleep and peaceful dreams in the last eternal Journey of his Soul.

Anyway, as I had mentioned earlier our 8th wedding Anniversary was on October 13, 2014 and we spent the day together as we usually do on our Anniversary. Nothing spectacular as far as going somewhere or doing something but it is always spectacular just to spend the time.

We went into town and got errands done that needed done, simply because life does not stop for an Anniversary that means nothing to anyone but you and your spouse.

Then we stopped for lunch at a new to us place and we were pleasantly surprised at how delicious our meal was. The place is sort of small the decor is sort of old but the owner took our order, his wife brought it to our table and it was hot, fresh, delicious and very reasonably priced. We also had enough leftovers that we brought them home and had a second meal from the leftovers.

After that we did what we usually do on our Anniversary which is the same as we did on the day we got married, we watched the baseball playoffs. Pretty romantic stuff there huh?

I've recently been focused on all of the fabric I have stashed away that I have had for a very long time. It is my intention to have all of the fabric used in some fashion before the end of this calendar year and before I purchase any more fabric. Except I purchased more fabric just yesterday and will be going on Monday or Tuesday to purchase even more (for a specific reason though).

I started with 4 fabrics for a quilt for one of our Grandsons. This Grandson is very serious yet has a fun side that is much like a hidden talent.
For him being so young he can be quite intense on the serious side but we can get him to his fun side with little effort and he has been like this since he was born.

Anyway, he loves the outdoors and he loves Halloween so I have taken 2 outdoors fabric prints and 2 Halloween inspired fabric prints and put them together. That would be the photo you can see on my profile.

I cut strips 8 inches wide of the 2 Halloween prints and 1 of the outdoor prints and stitched those together. The back of the quilt is the other outdoor print. I am currently removing all of the stitching I have done because I did not like it. I used white thread and a different stitch than the traditional quilting stitch and it took so much away from the prints on the fabric. So, I have removed or am in the process of removing all 100.000 stitches. I have about 100 or so to go.

Then I will be putting brown thread on the sewing machine and I will choose a different stitch, still not the traditional quilting stitch but one that is not as pronounced as the one I used before. I hope to have this quilt done before the moon rises today.

After that I will start the quilt for our other Grandson which will be part of a different blog along with the progress of all the other quilts I want to get done before the end of this year.

In closing I just want to leave a few thoughts to ponder if you choose:

Do you tell those important to you how important they are often?

Do you know someone who had an impact on your life from a brief encounter?

Do you like quilts that have many different colors, shapes and sizes or less embellished quilts that are simple yet elegant?

Do you wear purple socks?

As usual I wish you restful sleep and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber...
