I'm no fan of oppressive gun control laws...we've got plenty of other C-D threads to discuss that. Just the opposite, in-fact. God bless the 2nd Amendment, and Confiscationists / Hitlerites being repeatedly overturned by courts or voted out of office past few years in the United States.

That-said, I am "definitely" in favor of mandatory training in the use of firearms for certain situations and professions involving concealed carry! Pilots, teachers, and perhaps other professions with a huge public trust burden should require this.

Simultaneous to receiving my CCW many years ago, I chose to take a detailed, several day defensive handgun course and was much the better for it. Note that course also had a classroom module clearly discussing conditions and ramifications of carry, legal and moral. Every student with brains paid close attention to that. Praise God I'll never need those skills in-action; but it is absolutely my responsibility to keep my firearm safe and secure (and discrete) around others if and when I choose to carry.

"Shooting yourself in the leg" or whatnot just should not happen if a person is properly-trained and refreshes on the skills periodically. Disgustingly stupid, as seized upon by the failed "Newsweek" magazine (now online only), story quoted by thread mentioned above. I'm sure Huffington Post, New Republic, and other far-Left propaganda will be all over that as-well, in due course.
