Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken.
Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.![Stick Out Tongue](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/tongue.gif)
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

Case's Vacation Journal: Postcards From The Freeway
Okay, so freeway doesn't rhyme with edge. Just trying to be a little unconventional in getting a point across.
Houston, Texas, is where this writer is for a few days, and, for the most part, it's been a restful time. We had a little rain which interrupted the hot heat here. On my way down, I saw a funny situation I'd never thought I'd see. I stopped at Buc-ee's in Madisonville, and as I was making my way out of the parking lot, I spotted something you would not ordinarily see while at Buc-ee's. They usually don't allow 18-wheelers to park there, but sure enough, there was a Frito-Lay truck parked on the side of an adjacent highway next to Buc-ee's. And he wasn't delivering potato chips, either.
He was just wanting to go in and use the restroom and/or get a concession or three. I just thought that that was a bit funny. Guess that's one way a 18-wheeler driver can still stop at Buc-ee's. He just can't go into the parking area.
A couple other things worth noting: The Gulf Freeway (Interstate 45 from Houston to Galveston) just seems to be permanently under construction. Every time I've ever driven on it, there's always some kind of construction and road work of some sort. I mean, that rascal has seen more makeovers than Heidi Montag.
One of these days, I will drive that stretch and not see one ounce of road work. Everything that needs to be done will be done.
And the Astros are now 3-0 in my last three visits to Minute Maid Park. They won last night, 3-1, over the Cleveland Indians. Jose Altuve was on the verge of tying Craig Biggio's franchise record for hits in a season. That has since been tied up at this writing.![OK](https://pics3.city-data.com/forum/images/smilies/oglvvd.gif)
Also have had to try to walk off a nagging pull at my right ankle. I somehow injured it Saturday making a strange move, and I think it affected the ligaments around the ankle, rendering me a limp for a while. It wasn't exactly pleasant. A little Ben Gay in the affected area, plus a little Advil, and things are better, as I can move around better now.
Food is good, and weather has mostly cooperated with me. We've had some rain, thanks to an abundance of Gulf moisture and the remnants from a hurricane which hit Cabo San Lucas a few days ago. As long as it doesn't disrupt my trip, then things will be just fine.
Houston until Thursday, Austin on Thursday, and back home on Saturday. That's the plan.

Had quite a bit of rain in Houston and we could have a little more in Austin. I'll keep you posted. Been mostly a wet week, with Monday the only dry day.

That Altuve is one fine player. He should get MVP for all the things he's done this year.
And the Astros are going to get a lot better. You've had to be patient through all that losing.Posted 09-22-2014 at 12:03 PM by malfunction
