Suffer the Little Children

Posted 08-02-2014 at 03:30 PM by Fortoggie

Was up early this morning and watched the congressional debate from last night about the many children coming across the border into America.
Then I thought of the words of Jesus, where he said,"suffer little children and forbid them not,to come unto me." Matt. 19:14 and I wondered if that statement long ago had any meaning for this particular situation. In this small gesture and short statement Jesus was setting a new standard of attitude toward children. However it was not about border crossings and it was not about long term care. It also did not involve a decision that would require others to help pay for their maintenance via taxes. In our small county there are 144 churches and I wonder if the children will be discussed in any of the pulpits and if so how will it be handled? Catholic Charities and the United Methodists along the border states are already in action trying to do unto others as they would like to be done unto. This usually means that some well to do people make substantial donations to help meet the need. How would you like your pastor to treat this subject?
