The Railroad Killer
I think that was the name the news media called him. He was a Mexican serial killer who rode in the boxcars of trains to different states and killed people about 7 or 8 years ago. I remember the authorities believed he could be in one of the Midwestern states, including mine. I was all set to leave work one night and discovered my truck wouldn't start so I decided to walk the 8 miles back to my house, it was after 10pm and I didn't want to bother anybody asking for a ride. Most of my walk would have been on one of those long dark winding roads with plenty of curves and no sidewalks and very little shoulders. The speed limit is 40 but people usually do 80 since the road is so secluded. There are railroad tracks that parallel most of the road before turning into a wooded area. I didn't want to get run over so I walked down the tracks instead. While I was walking I got to thinking about that serial killer and picked up a hunk of iron that was about 2 feet long, If I encountered him I was going to give him one hell of a fight. Shortly after picking up that iron I spotted a figure coming down the tracks toward me, my heart began to beat really fast and I had trouble thinking about my next move. I breathed a sigh of relief when I noticed it was (2) guys heading my way. We didn't say anything as we passed each other, just stared. After they passed, I heard one whisper to the other, " Do you think that was him? "...... " I bet that's him " When I got close to my house I threw the iron into some weeds and began laughing to myself. They did catch the killer a short time later.
