Saturday Mornings

We couldn't wait for Saturday mornings when we were kids. We would watch Dastardly & Muttley, Fat Albert and then wait for our friends to show up and begin a day of adventure. We would often walk to this outdoor shopping mall 8 miles away which was built in a circular formation and was one of the largest in the country. It had just about any kind of store you could think of located there. We seldom had any money with us but it didn't stop us from having fun. We would walk down the long road to get there and stop at a gas station and tell the mechanic that we put money in his soda machine but didn't get a soda, he would open it up and give us one. Once we got to the mall we would go to this one department store that had a huge water fountain where people would make a wish and throw quarters in it, I don't know if any of their wishes came true but once they were out of sight ours sure did. After drying our hands we would go to the bakery and spend the money on these giant cookies and then go over to Sears and sit on the mini bikes in the showroom. A man would always chase us out of there and we ended up going to the tall bank building where we played hide and seek on the elevators going up to all the floors. When we got tired of the mall we sometimes would walk to the airport, they had a pinball machine room there and we rigged the helicopter machine game to where we could play it all day for free. We could spend a whole day doing things like that and not get home until dark.
