Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

A Red Light Sting? Well, Yes, At An Intersection

Posted 07-05-2014 at 08:17 AM by case44

Sometimes, life can deal you some strange curves. Such was the case yesterday as I traveled in my Toyota to Arlington, Texas, for their annual 4th of July Parade. At a certain point, I wondered if I would ever get there.

On a glorious 4th of July morning, it was time to go see a patriotic Independence Day parade like I used to do. First time in about six or seven years that I got to do this, so it had become time. I drove through a small portion of Fort Worth that rests between Euless and Arlington, and I was stopped at a traffic light like many other intersections, just waiting for the thing to turn to green. It remained red.

One minute passes. Still red.

Two minutes pass. Still red.

Cars and trucks were rapidly lining up behind me and a few cars were in front of me, still stopped. Three minutes pass. Still red.

Oh, boy. This doesn't look real good, as I have to be somewhere, still a good nine miles from my destination which I have to be at in 30 minutes.

Four minutes pass now. Still red.

So, some of the people in front of me decided to take matters into their own hands, and they would just go and treat this debacle-in-the-making as a four-way stop. The guy in front of me would not go, and I ended up honking at him. Just go, okay? Sure enough, we'd all just had to make our way through a red light that would not change. And I made it to my destination without any further interruption, so all became right with the world once again.

It should also be noted that the corridor which I passed through with the stuck signal, well, there were a few topless bars along that stretch, so it should just happen to pass for a "red-light district" of sorts, being where they are. So the play on words works in more than one way, partly fitting the preachment and observation for the moment. And, no, your favorite blogger did not drop in.
