Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

The Next Texas Hot Spot For Development? That Would Be Terrell

Posted 06-21-2014 at 07:20 AM by case44

Funny how, as I've just completed yet another road trip, I drive by a certain Texas town and keep wondering why no one has built anything at a certain interchange. It's not just any interchange, either, and it would serve as a great new gateway to Dallas from East Texas or Louisiana. I've driven by there for years, and still, nothing has happened.

The junction in question is the interchange of Interstate 20, Spur 557, and F.M. 148. Those roads form a nice little triangle on the southwest side of Terrell, Texas. At that particular place, there is just a ton of potential for new development. Right now, all that exists there is a Shell gas station, Soulman's BBQ, and the Russell Stover Candies plant (which does include a retail store). Well, as fate would have it, upon my triumphant return to the Case abode, I've looked up the internet for some Buc-ee's updates. Buc-ee's is a Southeast Texas-based convenience store chain with aspirations of expanding into North Texas, where they currently have no locations. Through a couple of sources, I have found out that Buc-ee's is going to build its first North Texas store in.......................Terrell!

And there was much rejoicing!

It will be just one of many new entries in the new development to be called The Crossroads At Terrell. Baylor Medical Center is committed to building a new complex at the cusp of the triangle. Other retail stores and several restaurants will also be planned for said interchange. By the way, Buc-ee's is going to build a large travel center similar to the ones they've opened in Luling, Madisonville, New Braunfels, and Wharton, and this one is expected to have 84 gas pumps. Adjustments will also be made for the feeder roads of I-20 and Spur 557 as exit ramps will be shifted to accommodate new traffic. There will also be expansion of FM 148 for same. But can you say "Finally!" to this new venture? I can.

No matter which way one goes to get into Dallas, there will now be a true gateway from the east side and something that Terrell deserves to have. It's just time for it. And if you don't like new developments and turning dirt, well, you just don't like beaver nuggets.

Let all the groundbreakings begin. Pass me a shovel.
