#AccuracyMatters: Another Customer Stumped by Zillow

Posted 06-16-2014 at 05:42 AM by dpbarr2000

Readers of my blog will know that I am a fervent advocate for accuracy in real estate, especially when it comes to Zillow and Trulia.

I had yet another customer ask me about a property they found on Zillow that was not available for sale.

The customer says she found 141 Spanish Point Drive, Osprey, FL for sale in Zillow. Google Maps does not show a home at that address, and there is no Sarasota County tax record for this address.

Zillow does show a property at 121 Spanish Point Drive for sale on their site:

That property is not for sale in the MLS.

Zillow needs to add an "opt out" option

We purchased our home brand new 2 years ago. We paid 1.3m and there were 3 offers. It is all brick, 6 bedroom, 6 bath home. We've had 3 realtors in to give us a current value. They all agreed we could get 1.6-1.8 in todays market. My "Zestimate" is $745,000 and goes down weekly. There is a teardown on the same street for the same price as my new home???? "Zestimates" are extremely inaccurate. As the owner of my home, I should have the option to "opt out" of the zestimate. I've tried to call, tweet, e-mail and no response. I've "claimed" my home and edited information. Although most realtors and educated buyers know to stay away from Zillow, this has directly affected us and cost my husband a potential new employment opportunity. Zillow needs to be regulated.
