Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

First Time On The CTP: Nice Ride!

It's a work in progress. And, as I write this, this particular road is about 97% complete, what with some touch-ups, signage, and final connecting road work left to be done.

I'm talking about Fort Worth's new Chisholm Trail Parkway, the downtown-to-Cleburne toll road with a parkway feel to it. Your writer decided it was time to go out and take a test drive on it. The road has some good city and country scenes along its route. It is intended to begin at Interstate 30 near Forest Park Boulevard; however, that interchange is still largely incomplete, as the flyover, the I-30 mainlanes, and the CTP mainlanes nearest that location are still under major construction there. Where the expressway ends is at U.S. Highway 67 just northwest of Cleburne, some 25 miles to the south.

CTP is different from almost all of the other arteries in Dallas-Fort Worth, in that the entire road has no continuous feeder roads between the interchanges. And feeders are a staple of Texas highway life. Not so on CTP. All in all, though, the road will be a good alternative to Interstate 35W and I can use that road as a shortcut for me to venture off to Glen Rose, one of my favorite, occasional, small-town hangouts. Closest to town will be opportunities for developers to put something near the highway at most interchanges; however, at Overton Ridge, there's already a large cluster of commerce at that location. Now, it will be a fairly steep cost to drive the entire road round-trip (four dollars each way, as rates per toll plaza are a little higher than other area tollways).

The time will come when I'll get back on that road. I'll need to allow the good construction workers to finish their jobs with the mainlines, plus a one-directional interchange at I-30 and a full direct access at I-20. I'd say the future is very bright for West Fort Worth mobility.
