Do You Rebel Against the System?

Posted 04-22-2014 at 01:05 PM by Fortoggie

The system: Arthur Miller, the writer, said that when he was growing up he never knew that he was surrounded by systems yet he came to see them all around him. We live in a stratified social system, in an economic system as well as in a political system. Doctors practice within the medical system and lawyers practice in the legal system. Ministers must function within a theological system and teachers within the educational system. These professionals often resent how the system works but seldom find a way to function outside it. Most of the people I have counselled over the years have rebelled against the system or don't know how to fit into the system. Why can't I be me? They ask! In fact they want to sing the Elvis song; " I gotta be me." The old AT&T ad use to say, " The system is the solution." But there is also such a thing as systemic failure and so we of the human race struggle on.

This month the National Geographic has a long article on our food system and yes I agree that without this intricate and dynamic system millions would go hungry. So systems are more of a solution than they are a problem but are still hard to deal with at times.
