Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Letterman To Say Goodbye To CBS, But What Will The Future Hold With Colbert?

Posted 04-12-2014 at 09:55 AM by case44

Sooner or later, David Letterman was going to make a decision. After all, he had been on national television in one form or another for about three decades. You already know about his gigs at NBC and CBS with "Late Night" and "The Late Show", respectively.

I used to watch his show quite often but don't anymore because of my work schedule being what it is. Lately, I've been hearing about some of Letterman's bits on his recent shows. I'm under the impression now that he's just a grumpy old liberal. It's things like this that will make people tired of his act. While politics get joked about on late-night TV, anyway, things have just gotten a little out of control, thanks in no small part to a tyrannical U.S. government that is trying to attack our good values and pressuring everyone into agreeing and complying with their sick agenda. Since this post is not really about politics (and believe me, the last thing I desire to think about is anyone named Obama), I believe that it is time for a change in late-night television. Letterman will be hanging it up at CBS in 2015. But Stephen Colbert? Life won't be the same at "The Colbert Report" (or, if you prefer, The Col-bear Re-poar). You know what I miss? "The CBS Late Movie" ; that's what I miss.

What's not known is what Colbert will do in his act? The news? What the Jimmys are doing? Something completely different? Who knows? But I think CBS would be kind of wise to wax a little nostalgia with the return of "The CBS Late Movie" just for grins. Yeah, I know what you're thinking and you're skeptical about it, but just chill. While not an original idea, it'd be good just to have a throwback comeback to provide a contrast to the talk shows on the other networks. It'd be worth a try.

Man, he's been on CBS about, what, twenty years now? That's a heck of a run by today's standards.

Perhaps CBS should ditch the Late Show and bring on The Colbert Report over there instead. Might do something for the ratings.
