Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Scattershooting Again / Mickey Rooney Remembered

Posted 04-07-2014 at 07:30 PM by case44

Never mind that your Monday was filled with stress and mine wasn't. I have some more tidbits to share with you as you chill out and take your respite right here on City-Data, where it's great to be alive. It's this thing I do now and then which I call Scattershooting, and I'm going here and there to share a piece of my life ---- and, perhaps, a few others ---- with all of you out there in Computerland.

Before I do anything else with you, we need to pause and remember a Hollywood legend. Just when I thought Mickey Rooney would last forever (and he was dang near headed there at 93), mortality suddenly makes a takeover. Mickey Rooney was larger than life as a child star in the 1930s and '40s. I don't have to elaborate on who he was; you and I already know. Remember his "Andy Hardy" films? Sure you do. A classic entertainer in every way, he had this infectious enthusiasm in everything he did. Mickey starred in so many feature films ever since, well, ever since movies made their way into the American fabric in the 1920s. He was a favorite of a great many Americans and is one of the last pillars from Hollywood's Golden Age. Now, we must say goodbye to him, even though we can't quite bring ourselves to do so.

Mickey Rooney passed away yesterday at the age of 93, of causes still unknown at this time. We'll miss ya, Mickey! Thanks for nine decades of great American memories and for loving life and living it to the fullest.

As I mentioned in a previous post, your favorite blogger is planning to take to the roads once again. This time, I'll be leaving Texas for a short while in June, as Louisiana awaits my arrival in my Toyota. The dates are now official at work, and by the time we reach mid-June, the Casester will be mating with some alligators in Cajun Country. My place of rest will be in Natchitoches, Louisiana, and I'll be spending a few days in the historic town. The hotel and restaurants have been picked, and now, all I've got to do is plan the tourist attractions in the area which I intend to visit while I do my R&R. I did mention alligators a second ago, and there is a place for me in Natchitoches. The name of the place is the Natchitoches Alligator Park. Imagine Case getting close to some real-live alligators, feeding them, touching them, and so forth.

Here's the link as I shoot for the joie de vivre. Bayou Pierre Alligator Park - Natchitoches, Louisiana

The Astros begin their 2014 baseball season with a 3-4 homestand, with Houston winning the first two games of the season, and against a pretty good New York Yankees squad. In the midst of their continued rebuilding campaign, they still have lessons to learn along the way. Teams always have to make the plays, offensively, defensively, and with solid pitching. A group of young players, while mixed with a few seasoned veterans, must learn how to win as a team. They have to learn to play mistake-free baseball and do whatever it takes to win games. If the attendance at Minute Maid Park is any indication, then the Astros have a long way to go to achieve their goal.

Yes, it's early, but now is the time for Houston to get out of losing ways and start taking the bull by the horns.

Idle thought: If Barry Obama really loves his ObamaCare plan for Americans and keeps touting it like it's the best thing since sliced bread, then why in the cornbread world would he continue to delay its full implementation?

Sitting just a few posts away from 500 blog entries here on City-Data, you all are invited to come and celebrate with me when it happens. By the way, I don't think we have anyone that's written as many as I have (no brag, just fact), and few I know are kind of close. Anyhow, that magic moment will draw near real soon. You'll see how many I have if you look closely at any of my forum posts (Just check the 4-1-1 at the right --- It's all you need to know). Come on over soon! Now, exactly when? I don't know, but when we do, we'll share some magic moments together.

Time again for some Stupid Criminal news on Case's Column, and we've got a guy who's got his goat. And just when you think that our dynamic duo (uh, as it were) could make a grand escape, well, things really start to go awry.

And now it's time for our Word Of The Day. Today's word is tie. Now, this word has many different functions that just tie right in. I lean down to tie my sneakers' laces as I put them on. I have a tie for my neck, along with several others, in my closet. And, as a baseball fan, I'm so glad that ballyard battles don't end in a tie!

And there you are.

Yeah, Case. Mickey had been around almost forever and could have gone longer. It seemed he was just ever-present all over the tube way back in the 1970's and 80's.

Keep bringing on that Stupid Criminal news. That's some funny stuff. Sometimes the people that do such insane things really don't know what they're doing. Glad to see you bringing it all out to the forefront in your "Column".

Hey, your Astros aren't doing too bad right now, even though the Darvish game was a bit of a downer. Pitching looks to be a lot better, particularly in the bullpen. If that lineup can get sparked up, I think you guys will have a decent year.
