From the Army to Real Estate Agent

So after joining the Army in 2002, 3 tours to Iraq with the great 3rd Infantry Division from FT. Stewart GA, a complicated knee surgery in 2009 which ultimately lead to a medical retirement in 2011, I had NO idea as to what I wanted to do in the civilian world! Sure I knew I could manage personnel after leading my own platoon as a NCO (non-commissioned officer) but as many veterans before me have learned, it is very difficult to translate what you did in the military to a civilian resume. I knew I may have to swallow my pride and start from the bottom in any position that I took, which is not easy for any sergeant to do. After some suggestion from my beautiful fiancée, I decided to look into becoming a real estate agent.
I decided that I would attend the mandatory 75 hour class at a local real estate brokers office, Long&Foster of haddonfield. I liked how they offered the class free to veterans, how they run their offices, their training outlines, and that it's 1/4 mile from my house. The ability to act as an independent contractor was the most appealing to me since I really enjoy running the show. I decided to start this blog so that other vets can learn from my mistakes and success while starting a career in real estate, but essentially this is for all newbies.
As I go through this journey I will try and update often, at least once a week. I just submitted my license application to the state so I am waiting in that to return before I can officially get the ball rolling. This is my first blog so more to follow but please be respectful of each other and refrain from vulgar language as we are all professionals here. Thanks!
