Tuesday ~~ March 4, 2014 ~~ Today is Fat Tuesday, otherwise known as Mardi Gras...

Posted 03-04-2014 at 05:01 AM by CSD610

Why is it called Fat Tuesday? I know that answer and it is appropriate, it is the last day before the start of Lent. Which means it is the last day to "get fat" before Lent when so many traditionally fasted at times throughout Lent and Lent starts tomorrow which is Ash Wednesday. I don't know all the rules from the beginning of Fat Tuesday, Ash Wednesday and the upcoming Good Friday but I do know I will not be partaking in the eating of fish on Friday's from now until Easter. I don't like fish, had enough disgusting fish sticks when I was a child to choke a herd of horses but I will try not to eat meat on Friday's either. Even though I don't like fish I will have meatless meals throughout Lent when I actually remember it is Lent.

Lent is also the season to give up or sacrifice something from now until Easter. The religious version of New Year's Resolutions except the sacrifice does not last as long. Will you be giving up anything for Lent? I traditionally give up fish for Lent which my Mother always tells me does not count because I don't like fish. This year is different though I will be giving up something and it will be a sacrifice for me. Not an earth shattering sacrifice but it should prove to be life changing for me.

My sacrifice for Lent this year is to give up my regular cigarettes completely for Lent.
I'm not being a cold turkey, super human, go bold giver upper though. If you have read my previous blogs and a few threads you will know that I started using the Blu electronic cigarettes a while back and I have cut down smoking real cigarettes tremendously however, I still have not given up real cigarettes all the way. So I decided to give up real cigarettes for Lent and use only the Blu electronic cigarettes. In theory by Easter I should be able to not purchase any more real cigarettes and I should be able to drop my nicotine consumption with the Blue electronic cigarettes to the next amount down. Time will tell and I should give you fair warning I may be even more cranky than normal for a few days...

Other than that nothing too exciting going on around here. I've got more sorting and filing done which is always a good thing. We are snowed in again which is nothing I can control or do anything about except I really should not say we are snowed in. There is a lot of snow but we have several 4 wheel drive vehicles so I can get out and go anytime I want to. I generally choose to stay home.

I do hope to be leaving Friday morning for a business trip a few hours drive away. Not a big deal but a meeting I do hope to attend this year. The meeting is on Saturday but my husband and I want to be there on Friday just to enjoy an evening away together. Go for a nice supper out, maybe lounge in the pool or hot tub at the hotel later and just spend some time to recharge and reconnect. I don't mean to say we are disconnected but he has been gone and when he was home we were so busy getting things done around the house we really did not take much time for us without outside influences.

The rest of this week will be used to prepare for the trip on Friday. That entails getting all of the laundry washed, dried, folded and put away. A bag packed and put in the car and all of the other daily chores that need to be done to come home to a clean somewhat orderly home on Sunday. It is sometimes a bit more work than normal when preparing to leave on a trip but it is well worth it to me when we walk in the door when we get home and everything is clean and tidy.

I am a couple days late posting the blog this week but I did not feel well on Sunday and I really struggle writing or doing anything when I don't feel well. I think anyone who reads what I post on the forum can tell when I don't feel well because I am more cranky in my responses. I guess the accepted word online is actually "snarky" not cranky. Oh well, it all means the same to me and I know I can tell and I'm sure others can as well.

So, in parting today I will leave you with a few points to ponder if you choose, which I did not do on the last blog.

Do you celebrate Fat Tuesday?
Do you partake in Lent or some version of Lent depending on your beliefs?
If you celebrate Fat Tuesday how do you celebrate?
Is it with food and drink or just food?
Do you give up something for Lent?
Is it something you like or like me something you don't like. Which by the way is a joke, I always give up something I like in addition to the fish I don't like.
Do you have a specific Friday meal during Lent? We always did, Fish Sticks, Macaroni & Cheese and Peas.
Do you have plans to gather with your family to celebrate Easter?
What do you have for Easter dinner?
Do you hide Easter eggs?

As usual I leave you with the wish that you attain all you deserve in your life time.
Rest well and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber...
