I live in Heritage near both of them. I have friends in Stonegate who love it, lots of kids. However, the houses are super close together and when you are in their backyard it feels like you are in a fish bowl.
I don't know much about Bowling Green other than I used to cut through it when the bridge was being repaired :>)
Schools - I have not heard great things about Harris Creek Elementary. However, I believe Stonegate is zoned to Rolesville Middle, which I have heard GREAT things about. My kids went to Heritage Elementary and current go to Heritage Middle. Both schools are wonderful.
As far as being close to everything it depends on what you are looking for. If you are planning on going to downtown Raleigh every weekend or North Hills, then it's a hike. But otherwise, there is plenty to do and places to shop nearby. There are a ton of local restaurants in Wake Forest. You are nearby grocery stores at both locations. Triangle Town Center is 15 minutes away. There is a movie theatre in Wakefield, a bowling alley in downtown WF and a new brewery in Wake Forest. I honestly rarely leave the area. It's a very family centered area.

Thank you for all the info, they are very helpful. We were looking at Cary also but I think we are leaning towards wf.
