Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

One Thing I Really Miss When I'm At Work

Posted 02-23-2014 at 08:05 AM by case44

Believe it or not, vacation's still going on for me. It allows opportunities to pause and reflect, as well as do the things we all take for granted. And that's not to mention all those other things, too. Tuesday (following this writing), I'll be back at work and back at putting my nose to the grindstone as I was put on this Earth to do, but I'll chase that rabbit when that time comes.

In the years before I elected to work on Sundays, it was always a joy to just take time and go outside and just soak in the Sunday morning solitude. Yes, I've written stuff in this space before about same, but can this writer help it? I can't, folks. Sunday mornings in my neighborhood and in others are all quiet except for the few birds that are chirping. Oh, sure, there used to be times when I would go to church every Sunday, but said times have now changed for me. Church is now done on Saturdays for the Casester (as I now work on Sundays). So, Sunday morning has a new feel for me. There's no better description for the quietness and stillness of a Sunday morning at my apartment complex, and there's also no substitute for it.

Yeah, I'll miss all that when I go to work next Sunday and each one thereafter. That is, until yours truly takes another vacation. Then and only then, the solitude can only return at least once more.
