Friday ~~ February 21, 2014 ~~ Where have you been?

Posted 02-21-2014 at 12:09 AM by CSD610

First let me say "Happy Birthday" to my honey, he is 61 today.

On to the blog and the answer to the question. I have been almost everywhere but let me clarify. I have not been "physically" almost everywhere but I have "been almost everywhere with my imigination". My thoughts and photos in my mind. How could this be you ask?

BOOKS!!!!!! Yes, books, words written in sentences and paragraphs on pages printed on paper, bound between covers and made available to anyone who wants to read them.

I love books, I love reading, I love writing, I love the words of others. Their thoughts, their photos, their imiginations, their gift to me sharing a very private part of their souls.
The depths of those words can make me laugh, cry, contemplate and consider many things.

It is amazing how inspiring on so many levels books are. Mere words, letters put together to form a word that has a meaning that can be different depending on the context the word is used in.

I read everything and I do mean everything.
I discovered the love of reading in Third Grade. I could read well before then however, my Third Grade teacher, Sister Ann showed me the absolute joy in reading.
The places I could go, the things I could do, the escapes I could make just from those words printed on those pages. Words written by others kept me enthralled for many pages and many hours.

Different topics, different information, different people, different places, and amazingly enough education. Yes, learning the one thing I did not want to do when I was in school was learn but learn I did.
I learned how to brew tea, weave a pot holder, make a clay pot, pack a suitcase, climb a mountain and fly over the ocean.
I had never physically done any of those things but I learned how to do them. I read those stories and retained that education.

As I grew older I loved reading even more and I learned even more. To this day many years out of Third grade I still love BOOKS.
I still read everything, I still research how to do things I don't know. I learn by reading, then reading again, then doing and doing again if I have to. Then if it still isn't right I read the same thing again and I follow the directions and compare to see if what I am wanting to do looks like it is supposed to according to the book.

I learned about plantations, slavery and the underground railroad. I learned about the planets and stars. I learned about the Bible, the Pyramids, the Pharoahs, Queens, Kings, Holy Men, powerful Women, I learned to keep a towel with me at all times if I am going to Hitchhike through the Galaxy and almost everyone, everything and every place else in between.

Books are important to me and I have many physical books as well as all the books on the kindle. I think if I had to choose a favorite for reading I have two.
One is Where are the Children: VC Andrews and Silver Jasmine but I do not recall the author. As far as other books go my all time favorite is Cook Books. I read cook books like I read other books. I also read menus like other books and the back of packages, containers, cereal boxes, street signs, billboards, road signs but not maps. I don't read maps. I don't like maps so I don't read them, they are boring and confusing.

There is no correlation between my honey's birthday and books except for the fact he does not read books, he reads maps. He can read quite well but he does not enjoy sitting down and reading a book. He will listen to audio books all day everyday but will not read with his eyes. He has a kindle as well but he uses the text to speach option which works well for him when he is driving.

There is a book we read together, actually a couple of them. One is "The Purpose Driven Life" and the other is the Bible. I've been trying to talk him into reading the Egyptian Book of the Dead but he just won't do it.

He also loves it when I read to him, he loves my voice and I am happy to read to him.
I read him things from this very forum all the time. I read him every blog I write, I read him directions to put something together and I read The Purpose Driven Life and the Bible to him. He has both books with him and he follows along but I do the actual reading outloud. Then we discuss what we have read and I truly enjoy those discussions. We do not always agree on everything but we discuss and try to understand what we each got out of what was read. These discussions are not heated either, they are discussions about the same passage or paragraphs read at the same time from the same book.

I know this is a shorter blog than normal however, I have not felt good all week and it is time for me to wander the timbers of my slumber.

So I leave you with thoughts to ponder if you choose:

Do you read?
What do you read?
Do you read for pleasure or necessity or both?
Do you discuss what you read with someone else?
Do you have limited subjects or are your reading choices varied?
Are you a good speller?
Do you read to anyone else?
Do you prefer listening to audio books?
What did you have for supper tonight?

As usual I thank you all for taking the time from your day to read these words I have written.
I wish you all you deserve in your lifetime. Rest well and peaceful dreams when it comes time for you to wander your timbers of slumber.
