Welcome To Case's Column

Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.

In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.

Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!

Regards,

Case's Vacation Journal: Relaxation If Nothing Else

Posted 02-18-2014 at 02:09 PM by case44

Here I am in sunny Abilene, Texas. It's always a joy just to venture off to another Texas city (large or small) and goof around a while. And the weather, for the most part, has cooperated in spring-like fashion, considering that it didn't look like it was ever going to warm up a little over a week ago.

But this is now, not then. Isn't it great that nice things don't have to be put off for so long? Meanwhile, I'm in West Texas and enjoying life (all the while trying to shake off some lower back pain). Tom Perini and the folks at his ranch in Buffalo Gap await my arrival out there tonight for my first try at their steak, plus all the fixins. San Angelo awaits my first visit tomorrow, and by then, I will have driven U.S. Highway 277 to reach it from Abilene. It's going to be a lonely drive, as I go through one municipality and one significant town in a 90-mile stretch, plus the trip back to Abilene thereafter. Sounds ludicrous (as there is another way to go there), but it's the faster way.

I'm just thankful to get away for a few days, period. And where better place to get away from reality than with the roads of Texas? A few more days out here, and then back to my abode 175 miles away. The R&R is what counts now.
