Sunday ~~ February 9, 2014 ~~ It is Girl Scout Cookie Time............

Posted 02-09-2014 at 07:38 AM by CSD610

Have you bought any Girl Scout Cookies yet? We bought 4 boxes yesterday while we were out and about and I ate 6 cookies last night for supper. Nutritious huh? Oh well, I don't worry much when I do things like that because I really don't eat like that often. Especially when Sneakers is home because he is diabetic and I make sure I feed him properly and feed him well. Even though he is diabetic he tells me what he wants to eat when he is home and I am able to adapt and adjust our meals so his blood sugar is not affected tremendously with the meals I prepare. Obviously blood sugar fluctuates however, I know the foods that are key for him to raise, lower or keep level his blood sugars within a few points. Those of you who have no experience with diabetes will probably not know what I am talking about and for that I apologize. I also hope that you never have to deal with this disease. It is controllable for the most part but there are those days when no matter what you eat or don't eat it does not help and the numbers are completely out of control. Then the next day everything is fine. Oh well, between his disease and mine we still eat very healthy 99% of the time. Even the times we are not eating healthy we do try to offset the affects of that food throughout the rest of the day.

Anyway, when we were out and about yesterday we stopped into one of my favorite shops and discovered they are closing. Complete liquidation of everything in the shop. I have no idea when this started however, there was very little left on the shelves. I picked up a few things at huge discounts and we bought 3 shelf units that were used for display in the shop. They will be a nice addition to our home and honestly quite functional for us at very good prices. For less than $200.00 we got 3 shelf units (2 wood, one plexiglass), a wooden box with dividers in it and some other odds and ends I picked up that will be very useful in our kitchen. Outside of the fact I have been a long time customer of this shop I now have to drive an additional 5+ miles to find a kitchen gadget or small appliance or I can order it online. Honestly when it comes to kitchen gadgets and fabric I prefer the hands on method of shopping. One of my favorite things to do is fondle fabric and kitchen gadgets. That sounds a wee bit perverted doesn't it?

Since we decided to purchase these items the agenda today is to get things moved around in our home to fit these items into our home. We need to do some cleaning and rearranging anyway so that is not an issue at all. I also have dishes to put away that are clean, other dishes to get washed, laundry to get started and I have got to change the linens on our bed today and get the dirty linens and blankets washed. It never hurts to run the sweeper and mop the floors either. So as soon as Sneakers gets up I'll fix him some breakfast then we will get started and continue on until we get tired of continueing on. Hopefully that won't be until we are done.

I have already made a list of the projects I want to get completed next week as far as sewing goes. I seriously have so much fabric and a ton of patterns and a bigger than a boatload of fabric that I need to get made into something. It would certainly free up a lot of space in our home if I got things made into sewed items instead of folded pieces of fabric. I am going to start with the biggest of the projects though, simply because these particular projects take the most fabric which means the most fabric will be processed and sent out of our home. The biggest projects are the machine sewed quilts I am making. All 60 of them need to be done as soon as I can get them done so tomorrow is the day I start on those and get them done. I really don't want to machine quilt them however, using the sewing machine is much quicker and I really need to get these quilts done. I hesitate to say "quilts" in the traditional sense. They are technically "quilted throws" which is a smaller version of the traditional quilt. I'm sure you all know what I mean when I say "quilted throws".

After all of the quilted throws are done on the machine I will make my next list of items I want to get done as far as the quilting/sewing area goes. I have not decided what to work on after the throws but I'll get my list made and work on the first item on the list until it is done then move on down the list. Just to clarify things though, I am not an advanced quilter/sewer. I am really just learning how to do all of this and I have become very good friends with quilting and sewing videos on youtube and my quilting and sewing instruction books.
Normal people take a class or find someone who knows what they are doing when they decide to learn a new skill like this. Not me, I get all of the items I need to do whatever it is I want to do then I read about it, watch videos and start. Yes I "wing it" and for the most part I "wing it" quite well. I may have to take out some stitches and start over but eventually what I am working on looks very similiar to what the end product is supposed to look like. The stitch lines may not be perfectly straight but the item is still functional and I firmly believe practice is the only thing that will make those stitch lines come out straight eventually.

There are so many things going on in our lives right now it is hard to keep up yet we keep keeping up as best we can and if we fall behind we don't worry with it too much.
Life is too fleeting to worry with little things that really don't matter in the big scope of life itself. I believe it is good to have a written guideline when it comes to tasks that need to be completed but I use that written guideline like I do a recipe. You have to tweak it to make it taste good to you. So if I have to change position of a task and put something else that has become more important in front of it, so be it. The positions gets changed and we move on and hope to gain a wee bit of getting things completed ground. Hopefully that makes sense to those of you who have gotten this far in reading this blog. Thank you by the way I appreciate the time you take out of your life to read the words I write.

So have you bought Girl Scout Cookies yet?
How many boxes do you buy?
Do you buy a few like us or do you buy a lot so you can freeze them and have them for a few months?
Do you make a list of tasks in the order they should be completed?
Do you tweak your list or are you regimented to the way the list is written and follow it exactly?
Do you fondle fabric and kitchen gadgets?

The time has come to end todays words and as usual I wish you all you deserve in your lifetime. Rest well and peaceful dreams when it comes time to wander the timbers of your slumber...........
