Welcome To Case's Column
Let me say a big welcome to all of you for joining me here. I'm going to call these blog meetings Case's Column. I wanted to use "Corner", but that was already taken. Since 2008, it's been a real privilege to come on here and share some of my life with you, and it's a big world where we live.
In these blogs, I'll just speak whatever is on my mind, but we will be playing within the rules here. I may pick a particular topic, point out an event, or shoot the breeze. I'm a little bit of an essayist at times, so I'll just speak what's on my mind, and I might tell a story or two. Or, I might spew out an opinion or three. There will be some serious moments, some tender, some poignant, but there will also be those moments that you'll just bust out laughing. But, hopefully, everything will be in good fun here. And, of course, there's a place below for your comments and thoughts as we go along here. So feel free to join me for the ride -- I sure as heck hope I'm doing this right and not making any mistakes.
Thanks for taking your time in reading Case's Column. Hopefully, you'll enjoy being entertained by it as much as I've enjoyed putting these writings together. And thanks for the time you spend in City-Data.com, where it's great to be alive!
Regards,

For Once, All Of Frisco's Highs Can Play Together
To say the least, the biennial realignment of the University Interscholastic League in the state of Texas had again come to pass this past Monday, and it was historic, if not very interesting. My high school alma mater in Arlington was moved into a newly-formed Class 6A, the state's newest big-school classification.
Fine and good, but my area of interest is in an up-and-coming school district which has already made some noise in the Texas high school football playoff picture the last few years, and it plans to make more. The new Class 5A takes over for the old Class 4A, where, in Frisco, Texas, all of its high school programs get to play one another in the same district for the first time in four years. It should be noted that Lone Star High School, the last high to open in Frisco, has never played any of the other schools, as it had been in Class 3A. Well, hey, they get to make the big jump in 2014! Here's the rundown:
Frisco Raccoons
Frisco Centennial Titans
Frisco Liberty Redhawks
Frisco Heritage Coyotes
Frisco Wakeland Wolverines
Frisco Lone Star Rangers
and..... [drumroll, please...]
Frisco Independence.
Yep, there'll indeed be a brand-new high school opening this fall. The Independence Knights make their inaugural push this coming fall in the newly-formed District 9-5A. The Knights' new colors will be purple, black, and white. This new district will have familiar teams from nearby which have played them the last couple of years. It will have nine schools in it. The seven Frisco schools will be included, plus Little Elm and The Colony. Scheduling should be interesting, but there will only be two non-district games for each school to play.
My hands will be plenty full this coming fall, as Independence will be added to my tour of Frisco as I watch games each Friday and some Thursdays. Wakeland, Centennial, and Frisco High are all expected to return some key players from last year's playoff runs. All I need now is this year's copy of Texas Football, and I'll be ready to go.

Independence, by the way, will not field a senior class, as it will be their very first year of existence. When it opens, it's expected to be the largest high school ever opened in Frisco's history (with approximately 1100 students). Football squads should have plenty of folks competing for spots (as all juniors are expected to play on the varsity squad).
It should also be the first time in that same city's history that a first-year marching band will field 100 students. Considering the pool of surrounding schools which will have kids transfer, that should easily happen. I wouldn't be surprised at all if each section had some considerable depth.Posted 02-07-2014 at 08:27 PM by case44 -
IHS Knight football is getting on Facebook and is in the process of getting their website put together in the coming days. Got a funny quote from one the posts on their Facebook page while they are getting ready for "Friday Knight Lights". Real cheesy. Sounds like something Skip Bayless would put together.
